My best tips ermm.....

Dont expect to much too soon.
Be Consistent.
Set short and long term goals.
Dont let the odd slip up signal a complete relapse.
When tempted to eat something dodgy ask yourself do I really want this?
Aim for a steady sensible rate of loss rather than a crash loss
Dont pursue chemical help to start with its a waste of time it does come down to CV (and lots of it) and diet ending up in calorie deficit its the only way!

Life is a journey, travel it well....

That's me in 2004. I weighed about 265lbs at the time. I've been racing BMX since I was 14 years old. After High school I progressively gained more and more weight. I'm now at 301lbs. Over the past few years I've started to have back and knee problems. About a week and a half ago I could barely get out of bed. I sat there in pain and asked myself "why am I doing this to myself?" I decided then that I needed to act now or else. If I'm in this much pain at 29 whats it going to be like at 40, 50? Will I live till 50? I had to do something. Now is the time to get on the road to success.

geesjourney, you have taken the biggest step in making the decision to do something.

I have dropped from 273 lbs to 203 lbs and aim to lose another 14 to 21 lbs to be where I want to be. This has been done through weights, cardio and sensible eating. If I can do it, anyone can, and we all have our different triggers that set us off on the successful journey.

Both me and my wife were (still are, but less!) overweight. My wife had a routine check at the docs and they told her she was borderline diabetes and should lose weight. I figured if she had problems, I might well have them too. So we decided to lose weight, together.

I have lost 70 lbs and she has lost 60 lbs, and whilst we are still not quite where we want to be, the difference in our health and overall feeling of well being is incredible.

I would pretty much echo the tips given above, especially about losing in a steady way and not being put off by the odd setback. Unless you are superhuman, these will happen.

It is great when people comment on your weight loss, but for me the biggest revelation has been in shopping for clothes. Previously this was a case of looking around for whatever they had in my size. Now I can choose anything in the store and they have it. I am buying things in a medium, when before was often Extra Extra Large. These things will be your motivation to continue.

Another thing I have found useful is that when your clothes become too big, get rid of them. Give them to a charity or whatever, but don't keep them. That way they can't become a safety net for bad habits to creep back in and for your weight to creep back up.

I am 40 years old and have tried all sorts over the years, and have never been successful like this. So like I say, if I can do it, anyone can!

Re:What's your weight loss story? - 15 November 2009 20:22 ( #125 )
on my 18th birthday i was 18 stone fat, never trained a day in my life.  My partner then (Started going out with her when i was 15) ridiculed/tormented me and put me down every day for being fat, she basically stopped being affectionate towards me and pretty much made me think i was a total faliure in life... after that i lost weight to 11 stone the total wrong way.. starvation, never ate anything, took hoodia to suppress my appetite, (my body ate all my muscle/and most of fat... in the end i was taken to hospital as i was fainting all the time and allmost died.  Since then i got rid of that bitch...(Cutting Story short) bulked for about 2/3 years (Dirty bulking) gained knowledge in training and dieting correctly, bulked to 16stone 3. now currently cutting and am going to be cutting untill 13 stone 5 = -86kg which is what weight i would like to fight muay thai

Currently - training hard - have a new partner (fiancee) a little girl who is 8 months... running parts of the family business - hopeing to have my first muay thai fight within 12 months... VERY happy now.

all i have to say to people is, it takes time, Will power will help, but most of all the only person who can really help you and guide you, is yourself!
Age : 23
Height : 6 Foot 6
  Started : Cutting - 16.0 stone atm
finished : 13.8 stone - cut enough!
training for muay thai fight in april 2010! 80-84kg

Re:What's your weight loss story? - 16 November 2009 12:13 ( #126 )
Hi there, Im a new user :).

Thought id comment on this thread

About a year and a half ago, i was trying for the army. I was 15stone7lbs and my height on 5ft 8. Im naturally well built, But back then i was huge, immensley overweight.

And i also smoked alot of dope. But after laying off it i found motivation, My goal was getting in the army.
I started to attend a martial arts class 2-3days a week and jogged between the other days in the week.

After a couple of months i started to shed the weight. andafter about 4months of training i found myself going from 15st7lbs to a 11st11lbs. I could jog for at least 2miles without stopping for a breather, and could do 72 pressups in a 2minute non-stop session.

I dont really remember what my diet plan was. But i know it involved alot of tuna.

Due to personal reasons, The army wouldent accept me :( . I got with my ex-fiancee who after a year and a half it ended horribly. I stopped jogging, stopped martial arts and find myself overweight again. same weight as last time, But less Fat as the 1st time. I suffer from depression which i find affects my motivation.

Ive decided to take up martial arts again, as i found attending a gym didnt help. (i wasent working out as much as i should have been). And it guts me a little, as im trying to remember my original diet plan, but cant remember for the life of me.

Could someone pass some ideas please!!! Thanks

hi there guys thought this would be a good place to start with using the forum with my weight loss story.

ive never really been a thin guy well untill now that is, id always hovered around the 18 19 stone mark with size 42 jeans and xxl tops i was FAT and when my missis was pregnant with our daughter my weight shot up to the point were i wouldnt get on the scales as i was to embarassed of the result, then 1 day i saw a picture of myself with my dogs and it made me feel ill so i decided to drop a bit of weight.
i tried everything for the quick fix from most etherda weight loss pills to a clen cycle and still i just got minor losses so i changed my whole life style i went out brought a punch bag and some kettle bells and have worked my ass off both mentally and phyically for the past 18 months and gave my self a goal that if i could get a flat stomach then id get my daughters name tattooed on my abs.
as i said its taken 18 months but now im weighing in a 12st 5, size 32 jeans and medium tops
yes i do watch everything i eat and i eat as clean a possible apart from saturday when i have my well done meal lol
anyway thats my story just thought id share it with you all

Hi there. Brand spanking new to this site. Wanted to just post my story and get involved really. I am 18, 6'1, currently 18st 8lbs.

I turned 18 having pretty much never burned off a calorie in my life. My brother has been a serious lifter all his life and decided he was gonna show me how. I was 23 stone and obese class 3 (the highest level of obese you can get!). I decided to get in the gym, my first day in was 24th June 2009. 6 days after my birthday.

My brother started me off lifting weights and not doing any cardio in the slightest. The weight started melting off.

Eventually I had read hundreds of books and subscribe to all the magazines and I have lost tons of weight. I went onto running outside, and built it up with a solid diet. And after 5 months I had lost 4 and a half stone. I put a little on over christmas so i havnt lost any more, just worked off what i put on, but 7 months in, 23stone down to 18stone 8lbs, and i am on target to make 18stone in 4 weeks.

Just wanted to get my own little story up.

p.s I managed to run 10k on wednesday, in a time of 56minutes.

Re:What's your weight loss story? - 15 February 2010 19:54 ( #135 )
Last March i finally decided enough was enough, my weight was 105k (16.5 stone) totally out of shape, mentally i felt tired and my self confidence at an all time low. Over the years i have made many attempts at loosing weight and went to the gym or went out for a run but never stuck at anything for a length of time to see results.

Anyway last March i went to my local boxing gym and had a couple of pay as you go sessions. Straight away i noticed a difference in my mental shape. I had more energy and was generally happier in myself. All this from a couple of sessions so i decided at the beggining of April to join the gym for a month up front, this encouraged me to go to the gym to make sure i got my moneys worth.

After a week or so and training hard by my standards i felt great but my weight was still the same, so after searching online for some diet advice decided if i was going to do this i would do it right, i found a personal trainer in my area who was a thai boxer so i signed up for a few sessions with him, he gave me nutrition advice put me on a 6 meals a day plan and i worked out with him for 1 hour per week, he also recorded my weight and body fat. The sessions i was doing with PT i was able to do on my own at the gym. After only a couple of weeks training wasnt a chore anymore and i was actually eating a hell of a lot more than i ever did before. I was struggling to fit the 6 meals in ant 1st.

As the weeks and months went past i was adding more and more to my training schedule, instead of going on the treadmill at the gym i started to go out for a run in the morning and then go to the gym in the afternoon concentrating more on resistance work and getting my cardio from the boxing workouts i was following. As soon as i started this the weight was basically falling off me. Each week i noticed a difference but the main boost was when the people close to me started to notice aswell, nothing gives you a boost like someone telling you that you look great or that youve lost weight.

In the last couple of months i have changed gym from a boxing gym to a normal fitness suite so i now get my cardio from running, cycling and cross training, I have also started to add kettlebells into my workout. Along with resistance and weights i am in the shape of my life. My weight has dropped from 16.5 stone to just under 14st at the moment. My waist size from 36/38 to 34 (32 at a push).

Most importantly i feel great and have the motivation to continue my training to push myself as much as i can and lead a healthy lifestyle.
