Wholemeal vs Seeded Batch
16 March 2010 15:11
( permalink)
Hmmm, I like Hovis Wholemeal bread and I like Warburtons seeded batch, but which one's better, there's only one way to find out.......... Seriously though is there any advantages over the two? I'm on 4 slices a day filled with 2 tins of tuna. The seeded batch seems a little less dense so perhaps better for fat loss and surely has some added benifits with the seeds but is it as much of a slow releasing carb source, as I have one of the sandwiches (2 slices) before a workout for energy in the gym?

Neither, burgen is king! I'd compare the nutritional values on the side of the packet to be honest, and see what fits best for you with your goals. They usually have a per slice value on them so multiply by 4.

I can't stand Burgen. It just seems like it takes forever to chew it. Weird texture.

I got a nice one teh other day which I may be converted to (as Burgen was sold out at the time) Can't remember the make or anything so I may have to get back but it was an oat and seedy one with pumpkin seeds, linseeds, etc etc. Really nice and for the sake of 2 slices a day or so I'm not overly fussed about the nutritional breakdown so long as it isn't all junk. BLM: the thing with burgen is, and I don't mind it so much, that it is very seedy so there is more jaw work than with regular bread. It does seem a bit of a heavier dough also tho.

Well I look at the per slice cals and was staggered, it's 132 Kcal per slice!! Still the hovis wholemeal granary is 104 which still seems quite hight. Might have to go on to pittas, I love bread though

Is that the seeded batch? Will be higher due to the cal content of the seeds I would have thought.

Yes of course it is, I wouldn't worry about it too much for the sake of an extra 20-30 calories or so!

I'd only be having 2 of them though instead of 4 slices. Gonna stick with bread anyway though as It doesn't take me over maintainance anyway. cheers.

I've wondered this myself. I tend to buy both. I usually stick with Burgen (or some other seeded batch loaf if Burgen isn't available) for my sandwiches in work. And I also have the oatmeal batch loaf to use for toast in the morning. That Warburtons one with seeds is pretty damn nice.
