Whether you want to beleive it (and there is a lot of proof around to say there is something in it) the CIA/US government have a hand in the erm control of the central/south American drugs trade.

Mexico is a failed state. you cant stop the drug cartels, unless you stop the demand from America.

This is true mate, although things have been a lot better. Things were organised but now they have gone to hell

Yes mate I have heard a lot of things with that, especially as these cartels have military grade weapons, which they wouldn't be able to get otherwise. There has been a sharp rise in cartel-related murders in the southern states of Texas, through the large amount of American born Mexican cartel members, and has been a number of Americans killed in Mexico this year.

A friend's dad is a chief in the Federal Police and he receives $50,000 bribe a month to help protect a cartel. I've never ever seen corruption like it. For example if you are stopped for drink driving, a 50 peso bribe (£2.50) will get the cop to go away.

Things last night and today, touch wood, are calmer, so let's hope things are on the up.

A good friend was driving home the Thursday night and encountered a Gulf Cartel roadblock and 3 armed members jumped into his truck and forced him at gunpoint to drive. He managed to run out of the truck at a red light and thank God they didn't shoot him.

I am starting to think of plans to move back or to another country, maybe into Spain as both myself and my fiancee speak English and Spanish, so it's a possibility. As a UK citizen I don't need a work Visa for Spain do I?

Its not a matter of opinion (or conspiracy theory), the CIA involvement in the cocaine trade since the 1980's is an established fact and a matter of court (and senate) record - remember Oliver North?

the US gov'ment have been active in trying to stem the flow of drugs entering the U.S.

i believe they have provided funding and support to president Felipe Calderón to combat the cartels. America cant really afford to have a failed state on its boarder.

i would leave mexico/any country if i was experiencing those sort of things - when you think 'home' you think peace and no stress, if you're getting stress like that, people dieing, heck i wouldnt need to think about it at all.

Sheesh that sounds bad out there. I wouldn't stay any longer than you have to mate. I've seen the Brixton and Broadwater Farm riots and driven through Northern Ireland in the Trouble. Didn't seem anywhere near as bad as what you have out there. I would leave the UK tomorrow if I could for OZ. Looked into it a bit but Hgv driver and Firefighter doesn't get me in unfortunately.

Things are looking ok, touch wood, so far.

I have found out that the other major cartels of the country, Sinaloa Cartel and Michocan "La Familia" Cartel have joined with the Gulf Cartel to try and exterminate the "Los Zetas" because of their excessively violent ways.

The news is beginning to print more things, although the reported death counts are incredibly low compared to what I have heard from people living in some areas.

2 interesting links on what is happening:

                http://www.themonitor.com/articles/reynosa-35839-amid-violence.html

I'm doing everything I can to make my life safer right now. I have left one position I have teaching English in a large factory, as although it was very well paid, it was at the end of a road that was full of problems.

To make matters worse a close friend's sister died the other day in a car accident and my 6 week year old puppy died today so waiting for the good luck!

I'm looking forward to leaving this country.

The economy is faltering, most services are sub-par and the tax rates are ridiculously high. Looking to liquidate my assets and get out of here.

Still, I don't envy your position.

Orange as I have said and Tac also there is lots of very very reliable information around pointing to CIA/Govt. involvement. It was some years ago but red about General Smedley Butler, one of the USA's greatest and most decorated generals. Think you might find his honesty a bit of an eye opener.
