Wishing to be back in the UK 27 February 2010 03:07 (permalink)
Hi guys,

For those of you who have moved abroad, don't you wish you were back in the UK sometimes.

I am in Reynosa, Mexico and the city has turned into a warzone. There have always been problems between the Cartels and the Army but right now there is problems between 2 Cartels - Los Zetas and the Gulf Cartel and there was a battle with 60 deaths yesterday. It's not being reported on the news as the whole state has been corrupted, the police force, all of the politicians. I am thinking of coming back to the UK asap, although I have my fiancee here too think about.

I work in a private school in which a lot of bad guys' kids go too and the other day we had 13 trucks of bad guys parked outside.

This was the gunfight near my house, it went on for 4 hours

Just needed to talk about it, as right now it's ****ing scary and I need to move but it's not as easy as it sounds.

The country is becoming a failed state and I would advise anyone not to come right now if you can avoid it, even to the tourist areas

My fiancee is from here. Mexico is a great country to live in, and when the problems start to resolve themselves then it will be again. Trouble here is that the corruption is diabolical.

I have all my wedding booked and everything for November 27th this year so hopefully it's all sorted by then...

Sounds like a bad time mate.

As kitty has already said maybe come back for an extended holiday until things settle down.

The gun fight alone would make me wanna move. You not move to another area in mexico maybe ?

Might have something to do with the benefits/casual work mate! coming from living in advert poverty and sharing a **** hole and getting a few quid to many in impoverished countries is a luxury.

Now you mention it, most of the people who come here do seem to be from poor countries.
Apart from Aussies. I know a lot of them here and they seem to love it.
Almost as many as the English people I know who have moved to Aus and love it.
