ZMA - Zinc and Magnessium

Someone at the gym recommended this supplement but as i'm a supplement sceptic and I'm definitely a "bloke in the gym said" sceptic. I thought I'd ask you guys what you thought, if you use it and why would you buy Zinc and Magnessium from a bodybuilding supp company over Holland & Barretts which seems to be cheaper.

What reason did he recommend it as it is often pitched as a test booster but imo fails here. It can prove to be very effective for many when taking before bed to promote deeper sleep and this in turn can have a positive effect on rest, repair and test.

Yeah, he recommended it primarily as a test booster although after looking I'm interested in the additional help for sleeping.

ZMA does get good reviews for deeper sleep. Haven't used it myself but good minerals to supplement with. I've had heart palpatations (quite bad ones) at night and at the start of my sleep for a while so read up and turns out magnesium is really important for the heart. I've tried these: http://www.boots.com/en/Wassen-Magnesium-B-30-Tablets_2862/ and the palpatations have basically cleared up. And zinc is a really important mineral. Do H&B sell this product? If so I'm sure it'd be fine.

Zinc as a test booster will probably be minimal and certainly not anything you'd see real world difference. Deeper sleep should be good for recovery though.

Agree with above comments, ive read some people rate it in regards to deeper/better sleep, wouldnt use it as a test booster myself i see it a supp that may promote sleep and thats it tbh. But never tried it needless to say.

I've used ZMA for sleep but never as a test booster. I find I get a deeper sleep with vivid dreams. As a drawback I often feel a little more 'space-out'/'foggy' (for want of a better description) in the mornings.

found zma is great when I have sleep problems, which being on shift work is quite often. Helps me have a less disturbed sleep as well.

I have used ZMA on occasions before. To be honest, I don't notice any difference with my sleep when I take it. I geuss it just goes to show that everyone reacts differently to things, and what works for some, may not for others.

I actually stopped taking it because of the vivid dreams, didn't justify the deeper sleep lol. If you don't have a problem with really vivid dreams then it should help your recovery by giving you a deeper sleep. It does also have a beneficial effect on hormonal levels but as everyone has already said not to boost them as such, more so I think that a deficiency would cause a reduction.
