been bjj for 1 week and now bad elbows.... help 06 March 2010 14:25 (permalink)
iv slightly injured my elbows from starting bjj, both of them hurt and i had to stop training half way through cause of it, still aching 2day after pain killers, its not muscular pain it feels like its coming from right inside the joints, hurts when i bench press now also. fink i may need a couple weeks off.
will glucosamine sort this out?

only thing i can think of why this has happened, i was sparing and kept getting could in arm bars and i have been trying to pull out (ovioulsy i couldnt) so i tapped out. so i think with thew weigth of the guy pulling on my arm and me using my bicepo to stop my arm from straightening, i must of done something to my elbows.

but they didnt hurt on the night, it wasnt till the day after when i tried my weights workout, a lil pain but not that bad, then was bjj lst nyt and had to stop my elbows were getting werse, with the pain i just lost all strength in my arms, ended up just going home.........

When you get caught in a arm bar and you don`t know any escapes which you won`t after a week ...just tap early.

Arms bars can cause alot of damage if someone really cranks it on!! Best bit of advice is tap early if you think you don`t know the correct escapes. Hope it gest better for you soon mate.

Saying that in the first week  and even months more experienced guys should be taking it easy on you and helping you learn real basics, hip escape , arm bar drill, triangle drill etc, not cranking out arm bars on you !!

I think Glucosamine is really effective, get some with Chronditon too and maybe MSM for joint pain. I'd take 2000-3000mg of Glucosamine a day for joint pain and it goes away.

As youngmuscle said just tap out as soon as an armbar is on.

I have been having the same experience it seems to put alot of pressure on my wrists and elbows.
I also cracked a rib and have had to stop for two weeks, it's ffing painful when I cough!!

I will go back soon because I enjoy it, but wont go to mad as I need to be able to work and injuries will put a stop to that.

It sounds like inflammation in the joints. take some [font="'segoe ui'"]ibruprofen and rest for a few days. before training stretch your arms and make sure they're warmed well. Ask your teacher to teach you more escapes. I agree with young muscle the more experienced guys should let up a bit.

This caused me to stop MMA (still get gutted about it too as I loved it), I tried everything from Glucosamine, MSM to cryogel.  They worked for a bit but still had pain so had to stop.

The advice above is good about tapping early and I'm pretty sure this it what messed my arm up.  I'd try to get out or fight it and it would just get cranked on.  Just tap early mate.

dont pull your arm out in an arm bar, stack them!

the damage is done now, so just rest it and ice it

the best advice i can give you is not to resist arm bars when they are locked in, just fight twice as hard next time so to make sure you dont get into that posistion in the first place.

stack them? u mean use other arm to pull on it and not the actual arm in the arm lock?

Stacking them is where if they have you in an armbar in there guard you roll/push forward to where there back is off the mat or ideally there head is just on the mat. (P.S- not sure its the best description of stacking)
