Ive heard we should all do some type of cardio for our hearts ect, however if your trying to gain muscle should you still incorporate cardio into your training plan? Or does it take away you gains as your telling you body to loose fat and gain muscle at the same time? any comments very welcome would like to run again as ive always enjoyed but dont want to jepordise my muscle gaining, many thanks all, bill

yes, cardio is important for anyone, no matter what their goals. It doesnt really tell your body to loose fat, it simply burns energy, so if you fuel the cardio session it will have no detrimental effect on muscle building. IMO quite the opposite, a healthy body with good levels of CV fitness, decent blood pressure etc etc is in a much better position to build new muscle for many reasons. Dont neglect the cardio under the misguided thought that its detrimental to bulking!

I am trying to gain mass but still use the cross trainer twice a week for 20 min. I also play football twice a week.
The last three or four reps is what makes the muscle grow. This area of pain divides the champion from someone else who is not a champion.

Sharpiedj I am trying to gain mass but still use the cross trainer twice a week for 20 min. I also play football twice a week. Ditch the cross trainer and get on the rowing machine.

HIIT is a good form of CV which wont stop you from achieving your bulk goal, try 20 mins 3-4 times a week, look at sprinters compared to marathon runners....

It'll be fine. Diet is the key, not the cardio. As for what type if cardio - do whatever you enjoy most.

A little cardio, 20mis or so 2-3 times per week won't have any noticeable negative impact on muscle gains. The increase in stamina and endurance should actually go towards helping your muscle gains as you’ll be able to train that little bit little harder. As mentioned in a previous post, HIT ensures all the benefits of cardio and almost eliminates any negative effect on muscle mass gains.
