I think one of the biggest motivators is progress, I'm 46 next year and currently 16.5 stone with 17.5 arms and 48 chest. I wouldn't want to go backwards, thats a great incentive to train! Plus always having a goal too. Have in mind where you want to be (but don't make to hard a goal) and when you get there, make a new one.  Read the magazines too, they have inspiring photos and stories, also you tube is a good resource.

I would like to enter an old gits Bench Press competition and my training is focussed on that, so far I'm making good progress (Current Bench is 150kg), this is really driving me on.

Have something to go for maybe..

tyrob, start a journal mate, take a photo of yourself now, bite the bullet, post it and tell MT what you intend to do to improve. Then show us what you're REALLY made of.

You can do it mate. We want to see you succeed !

oh durrrrrrr.....you CAN control your food intake....get your head round that sentence........you eat cos you're bored?...then do something about that.....how much do you want to feel better, and good about yourself hey?.....if you really want it, the other stuff will fall into place..bit by bit....not easy I know from experience...and how about going to the gym straight from work so you don't have an excuse to sit on your bum, switch the tv on and eat garbage until bedtime?....or are you disciplined in that area....you can do this.....you can......

you need some will power and a carefully constructed diet. You can substitute the sweet cravings with things like low fat quark with pinapple chunks or peaches, add some oats. Very satiating and good protein.

You'd be best to visit the diet section if you're serious about having your diet looked at.

                  NR knows stuff!.....

                  Personally I don't like chocolate at all....barf.....

4 or 5 bars?...are you kidding?...bleurrrrrgh.......why do you wanna eat that?....you could try buying really decent choccie if you HAVE to....and just eating a few squares a day?....Green and Blacks is good...or there is a choccie you can buy that is made of carob or something like that....as you say, if you have done it before you can do it again...

So you KNOW what is required don't you.....then do it and report on here how you're doing....4 or 5 bars??? BAD TYROB!!!!!!lol...

My downfall is a large single malt! and hot toast with real butter on it...phwoaaaaaaarrrrr...ahem....not at the same time tho I hasten to add.....but I want to get into shape and feel fit now more than I want to stuff my face so the bread has gone to heaven, the single malt however, does wend its way in on a weekend at some point...but only one and I savour it...gotta live hey?....lol...come on blokey!!!!! get in the zone.......you don't want NR breathing fire hey?...fingers crossed for your "journey"....

                      WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOOD!   soooooo...gym report from you at some point then and DON'T even think about fibbing, cos I will know.....:)    and good for bypassing the Indian food...but if you really do want one you could have the chicken shashlick...which is what I have ..it's a kebab thing with chicken (obviously..durrr)...and tomatoes and onions and peppers...you could have it with SMALL amount of rice and salad.....prolly not your idea of a curry but it's there so you can at least go and have something......oh..I forgot, you can have it with king prawns too ifyou like fish.....

I'm glad you got your mojo back......keep doing if you can, ya know, like brushing your teeth every day?.....or putting them in the jar!...lol...(sorry, my humour...)....going to the gym is part of my life now, and even if I've had a rough day I still go and feel better for it, and it stops me from eating crap if I feel like I'm falling off the wagon a bit cos I think of all the hard work I'm doing and I don't wanna spoil that.......you will feel the same too.....right?....do it tyrob!...you owe it to yourself right?...of course right......:)

                        Hiya

Wowow this is the first post I have read this evening, and boy this is such a 'kick ass' forum, I so love it.
I am 53 and see exactly where you are coming from, believe me I do.
I agree with all the input you have had here, but you can always do with more encouragement. I was/still am a chocoholic and have never learnt to say no completely, I just eat less of it because i have to.

You have taken more steps than one you know.

                        You booked the day off.
You didn't think of an excuse not to go to the gym.
You got ready for the gym, and made it there.
You got on the scales and faced what you weigh head on.
                        You did a training session.
                        You loved it
You want to change your eating habits.
                        You have posted on here.
You will be posting some pics for us.
                        and.....
You will be keeping us updated on your progress.

So how many fantastic steps did you take on this one big day.

                        'WELL DONE'

                        Val  x

P.S. I have posted 'Before and After' pics on here a cpl of threads lower than this one - I had to grit my teeth  to post one of them. I have merely lost weight, but still have a long way to go with my training.

desperation to not be a skinny runt forever!

Desperation not to be a fat bast*rd forever! I find the motivation for training easy but controlling diet is much harder.
