ground nut oil 05 November 2009 13:25 (permalink)
bought some groundnut oil from Tesco, guess its used for cooking usually, is it ok to put couple of spoonfulls in with my shakes for a few extra calories?

I'm mixing it with 2 scoops protein, 1 scoop fine scottish oats, yoghurt, skimmed milk and frozen berries, might sound a bit nasty but its actually pretty nice

Most if not all of the nut oils I found in supermarkets have been refined/bleached etc which totally sucks.  If you want a good quality nut oil or any other oil for that matter you ideally want to be looking at specialists/delicetassens.  I use Mac nut oil from Now foods and Olivado - The only oil I do buy from a supermarket is Avocado oil (olivado) from Sainsbury.

Its fine. What is better and far tastier i find is coconut milk.

You can make it very cheaply by melting 100f of creamed coconut and adding in enough boiling water to make it up to 500ml mark. Let it cool and hey presto, half a litre of coconut milk for around 20p vs over £1!

        Cheers guys

gothic_Muscle, not many specialist shops round where I live, can you get the oils online?  And I'm guessing I can splash some avacado oil into my smoothies instead just to up the calories?

Iopener, read a few posts about coconut milk, looked in Tesco for it in the cartonned milk section (I may be wrong?) but couldnt find any, whats 100f of creamed coconut and where do i get it?

        thanks again guys

creamed coconut comes in little packages that weigh 200g each.

you cut it in half, dump boiling water to cover it to 500ml mark in a container and stir like mad for a a minute and you have cheap homemade coconut milk. Usually Blue Dragon coconut milk is around £1.60 for 400ml!

No it's not the same as dessicated coconut, you'll be there all day trying to get into a milky substance.

              You want something like this
