how much fruit is too much fruit

hi is there such a saying as too much fruit?? i have a small bowl of mixed fruit in the morning as part of my breakfast, i then also have 2 small oranges with cottage with my 11 am snack, then half hour before training i have my protein shake and an apple. would you consider this "too" much fruit, im looking to shed a few pounds of fat , usually have 25g porridge in the morning but the trainer at the gym had advised me to swap this for fruit and yogurt instead of porridge to help speed up fat loss? what are your thoughs

hi louis thanks for the reply, i dont have any "bad sugar" in my diet but wasnt sure if i was eating too much fruit though, as i have never eaten it for breakfast before, its always been porridge or eggs, then ive always snacked on fruit mid morning and before workouts only. cheers kerry

i must eat a min of 3 a day
The last three or four reps is what makes the muscle grow. This area of pain divides the champion from someone else who is not a champion.

i would prefer vegetables over fruits, as after all fruit sugars. for now if you are losing weight at a healthy enough rate then carry on, when/if this stagnates then you may want to look at dropping the fruit.

for fat loss most people forgort that fruit is high in suger, i would say if your losing weight then dont worry also try to get 2-3 servings of veg as well if you do have a sweet tooth though its best to keep fruit around so you dont ventre off to a choclate bar or something else that you will feel guilty for and no problem and keep doing what your doing

I wouldnt worry too much about eating lots of fruit, if your weight loss stagnates and you cant do much more in terms of other areas of your diet or exercise then maybe look at dropping it a little, however wouldnt be worrying too much about it

Too much fruit = colic, wind & diarrhoea. Some fruits are more calorie-dense than others e.g. bananas, dates & figs, so if you eat those, take their calories into account in your daily total. Drying or juicing concentrates fruit sugars (and therefore calories).

that doen'st strike me as a lot of fruit tbh, but that is certainly better than most people.. which says a lto about the UK diet. That 5 a day thing is a minimum, ideally we'd all be having 10 portions of fruit and veg a day lol

Fructose metabolises to fat stores faster than any other sugar. I'd keep the fruit intake to a minimum if you're concerned. They are packed full of nutrients but they contain nothing that can't be matched by vegetables that aren't full of sugar (and not to mention more filling). Plus along with the sugar which will cause tooth decay a lot of fruits are acidic which further add to that - which is why smoothies with citrus fruits aren't a great idea.

hi all thanks for all the replies im am going to stick with fruit and natural yogurt for breakfast for about 2 weeks as suggested by the trainer and see how i fair, its a nice change from porridge but im guesing im enjoying it at the mo as its something different , i might alternate 1 day porridge, 1 day fruit and yogurt. i eat veg everyday but have this with my evening meal, cant imagine munching through a ton of brocoli at 8.30 in the morning! haha! thanks all kerry :O)
