iBCAA & Casein Hydrolysate & dextrose intra w/o
11 January 2012 11:36
( permalink)
I've been using casein hydro for some time now with success, now I've read about iBCAA being water soluble (like CH) and always thought the two would make a kick arse combo due to their similar uptake. Just found it on MP, thought you could only get it in yanksville. So what do you think for the above as a intra w/o shake?

will work very well IMO, its the basis of the branded intra workout that i use now, save for a few other bits a pieces, and carb sources being different. how are you finding the taste of the CH? when i tried it on its own it was foul!

it is pretty bitter mate and the missus knows instantly when I've had it. It's tolerable, dextrose almost neutralises it. But I have it neat with leucine as soon as I rise and it sure does wake you up lol. recommend any better carb source than dextro?

Hello mate, I've beeing using CH and mixes of this and whey hydro since around 2005 with athletes (easily available in Aus back then) seems to be a good idea especially at higher training volumes. Yes, it defo needs sour/citrus flavouring to mask it properly. Currently using a product with pepto pro by a company that shall remain nameless that I like.

a rare appearance from drew! Good to know you're a supporter of CH mate, don't hear of many using it and talking about it usually draws a blank expression!

How much you guys shooting for g wise for these products? I was looking for around 20g IBCAA intra as my starting point. Then a further 10g post work out, then having my usual PWO products about 20 minutes after.

I do follow up with ibcaas between meals especially after legs.

That's a very personal question Drew, but as you asked so nicely..... lol I roll in at around 245lbs, 5'11 I usually have a solid meal a couple of hours before a session, but sometimes a shake. I've looked into fasted training and the lean gains protocol but still not given it a go yet. I recall reading somewhere that you've used this approach yourself Drew?

Re: IF'ing, I usually try things out on myself before asking a client to do it and it seems to work well for me and some of my cleints. I was just wondering as you're consuming a lot of BCAAs and there higher intakes are sometimes used in the fasted circumstances for muscle sparing effects and also fuelling training (like fuelling a stove with £5 notes though!). The muscle synthesis effects of BCAA's top out at a certain concentration and given your weight that would be about 13-15g. You then have to wait quite a few hours before you can make them increase again by adding more BCAA. I just think you may be overdoing it especially with that second dose. If it works for you though, there can be little arguing with that!

Cheers Drew, Basically, I got my BCAA protocol from some of Poliquins articles.... He is of the more is better approach to BCAA but he would say that when he's flogging them lol. Although he sells caps, and claims that people should take caps pre, intra and post. I will reduce my amount intra. Drew, thoughts on using BCAA between meals to keep the goodness going strong? I read an article by Layne Norton promoting this approach?

Lol, I know Ian. I find his articles interesting, but some of his claims really are quite outlandish.

I weigh approx 168lbs I would have a carb/protein rich mean about 2 hrs before I train and a protein rich meal about 2 hrs before I go to bed, bearing this in mind how many g's of bcca/ibcca's should I be consuming? I have been taking 5-10g pre-bed

The_Lone_Wolf I find his articles interesting, but some of his claims really are quite outlandish. I agree. He is obviously a good snc coach and I'd do listen to what he has written... but some of the stuff I simply don't buy.
