iPhone Bluetooth
08 March 2010 14:26
( permalink)
This is starting to get on my nerves now. Does anyone now of any third party apps via cydia at al (paid or free) that will unlock the bluetooth capping on the iPhone to give it full functionality? I want to connect a GPS and do BT file transfers to and from the phone to all devices. Im baffled why this is locked down.

It was locked down becuase the big record labels didn't want music transferrs going, mostly it's Sony music and warner music, ESP them actually, because of them selling thru iTunes.

There are loads of negatives , the worst one is that you cant take the battery out ! Nothing I enjoy more than using my phone without a battery in it , but you simply can't do that with an iPhone , What were Apple thinking ?

It's a question of replacement of course, or extending the life of the unit whilst away from a charger. But of course there's an app for that

My mate made a point of laughing at my Macbook Air for not having a User replaceable battery , and that I'd "see the problem" a year or so down the line Well it was a year in January - I still get 5 hours out of my battery , he gets about an hour and a half out of his Dell ..... But he can go and get a new battery , so he's better off than me , right ?

It's the hanving your hands tied part that is what grates most people in my experience. Most manufacturers show that it's quite possible to have a battery than can be user removed - Apple don't and lay the blame that it's not possible to achieve the style they do and still do it. That's just nonsense IMHO. The ability to double or triple your battery life by simply carrying a spare or two is a huge boost. Don't get me wrong, Apple do lots of things very well. Some of the things that they do purely to tie people into going back to them for software or upgrades is just a bit silly.

Nothing I enjoy more than using my phone without a battery in it , but you simply can't do that with an iPhone , What were Apple thinking ? I've changed the battery, if you're a dab hand with a soldering iron and have patience to open the case without snapping it in two, it can be done. I have a few gripes with it. One being blatantly obvious to me really is stacks, app switching and background running of applications. That and the after service options suck. Seriously though, the overtly sarcastic non-helpful replies are getting a bit tedious. I appreciate you're an Apple Fanboy, but please, if you dont have anything of use to add to my thread, please dont post in it. Thanks. Desmo theiopener BTW, can i give you an app to host on your repository per chance? Yeah, no worries. Also found a error in your grammar, there should be a question mark somewhere at the end of that sentence. Tut tut.

If i was to have bought this phone outright i would be quite pissed annoyed that i cant get some basic functionality that lesser phones have as standard! As for the battery thing, i have one of these, its half the size of the phone but easy to pack and carry with you when you aint got a charger outlet handy.

Actually, if ya had a glue in the difference in form factors between removable batteries and what apple use, it's very easy to see why they have to use proprietry batteries. One is form factor, removable batteries take up alot more space and components to make them removable. Removable batteries which are mostly made by Sony, are now pretty much proven to be useless 9 cell jobs that give a few hours of hard work on either other lappy. As opposed the 6 odd hours I got from a mbp using ps and video editing and 3d panckages. If ya have such a problem with them just don't buy them, but don't go writing crap about a product without understanding how the different architecture works and their choice for doing things.

So Apple products tend to use batteries that are non-user removable/replaceable because they vastly outperform the alternatives and because of the form factor? Sorry but we'll just have to agree to disagree there. I don't go around bad mouthing Apple products, far from it. I do question some of the things that Apple do that provoke genuine questions from lots of potential customers. Right now i don't have any Apple products, but only because i no longer have the iPod or iPhone that i have owned. I recommend Apple products, but i do still question some things about them - same as i do any other brand.

Disagree. The batteries are simply slabs of Li-Polymer battery linked together by wires and placed inside some ESD foil. Li-polymer cells have been around for over a decade and are nothing new. Removable Li-poly batteries have been used in phones for ages now too and come in all form factors and sizes. It wouldnt be that difficult to engineer a battery that goes on the bottom of the iPhone which is exposed with a removable cover that currently on the 3gs etc. With respect, i can choose to write a complaint if i feel like it, its a consumer right, the same as your right to simply ignore it. If no feedback existed be it positive or negative, do you think anything would progress forward?
