Presently, the experts tell us that glucosamine isn't worth anything as far a joints go, so stick to eating fish, rather than taking fish oils, so they say. I tend to believe them as I am not a believer in suppliments per se - I'm sure they have good stuff in them but our bodies get rid of them, rather than direct their 'goodness' to the areas we want it to go IMHO.

Probably more important is the exercises you are using. They, and just normal life, is what is contributing to the wear and tear. I think the safest route is to use compound movements, but treat them in the same way as you would do isolation movements - smoothly. Compound stuff doesn't place joints in awkward position or over extend them. But because you can lift more weight, you have to control the reps and get the muscles to fight against gravity alone - no explosive movements.

    Only my observation.

Perhaps you should be a bit more specific about your joint issues.

Also regarding the comment about Glucosamine, where is the evidence for it being ineffective? I've known GPs even recently suggest trying it. Some things work for some and not for others, so I wouldn't dismiss something necessarily. I do agree that natural sources of vitamins are probably much more effective. For example: I have been drinking Carrot juice daily for several months now and it has massively reduced my reliance on my inhaler for Asthma, not to mention the difference in my skin.

Some pain could be also a bio-mechanical dysfunction rather than joint pain too. How long have you been training?

          lol.

          rubbish.

Moose, try some of the following (in order)
          Diet, sleep etc
Check you're form when exercising is good
Work on the soft tissue (massage - avoiding the joints, mobility, muscle acitivation) to improve how your muscles function and thus joints are functining
Look at fish oils as above, also glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM are a good combo.
Other anti inflammatory extracts like curcumin, nettle etc can also help

I totally concur with all that Drew states. I have just added  Cissus Quadrangularis powder 3 x daily with food, so I cannot give you feedback as I need to take it for a longer period to see if it works. It's not cheap either. But I suffer too, at the age of 45, but I also throw in a little common sense when lifting and it pays dividends. If your joints are still aching then REST! It's a great healer. I train hard as a bodybuilder and want my joints to be in the best shape possible. Experiment with Drews suggestions re diet, sleep etc. Hope all goes well mate and give an update.

Obviously some very good advice and I'm just adding my personal opinion based on experience. After 30 years of (quite honestly) abuse and heavy lifting I have various "wear and tear" issues to numerous joints, I've tried all the comon supplements but for me management and "containment" comes down to good sleep (make sure your getting enough) good diet and adjustment of training - nothing really ground breaking but it works for me. I've also found that regular accupressure has helped me immeasurably as shouldrs, back and knees got to the point of stopping me from training at one point.
