just turned down a temp job...what do you think?

I just turned down a 3 month temp job working at a Car rental company where i would be calling back customers who have either used the service or declared an interest. Aswell as updating customer information and taking bookings.

I'm not sure this was the right move?!

I don't really want to do this job, i don't really want to be tied to a phone all day long but at least its not cold calling! The pay is okay [6.50-7.00].  If it was for a month or 6 weeks i'd probably have taken it.... in the back of my mind i'm thinking about the other 5 applications i've got for other jobs which i would actually want to do! Then again if i don't get any of those i've just turned down a job!?

Can you see where i'm coming from?

Any thoughts? you reckon i should have just taken the job?

The temp agency are ringing me again tomorrow about 1 weeks work near my house so if i didn't get that i could always try beg for the first job?!

If you have no job, then you're stupid. If you have a permanent job, then you did the right thing.

Getting back into the habit of working motivates you and gives you a sense of achievement/self worth. In effect it makes finding work easier. Plus it shows the agency you are reliable and then they'll be putting your name at the top of the call list when they get work.

With the level of unemployed people about, you cannot afford to pick and chose. Dog eat dog.

No, I wouldn't have taken such a job, but then again I only have myself to support and I can live on very little.

I would have taken it.

There's nothing keeping you there if something better comes along.
And if not, it could be a worse job.
And it could lead to more work with them.

Yeah, it was more a gut reaction to it...thats why i thought i'd ask. I was unsure after i thought about it. They wanted an answer immediately and i gave them one

I wouldn't personally say that its stupid thats a bit harsh, on the other hand i have done something extremely stupid today.

Lol i do actually work you know, ive been at work all day and im still at work now... the only thing is that i just watch others do it. Yes i know im a cnut.

I think i would have taken the job. This week i am sorting out going to a local temp agency to get something like this so i can get back on my feet again.

If it's decent money, work you would have been happy with, even enjoyed, and weren't tied down to for a long time then it does sound like a mistake to have turned it down.

9am mate and staying till 7:30 as some of the guys have a late shift

I've just realised that my first post was abit wrong...

they didn't offer me the job, they asked if i was interested...this would then lead to a telephone interview and maybe a job!

But you are right, probably should have agreed. I will ring them back tomorrow and see if they'll give me the interview

I would have taken the job, you can make contacts whilst you are working and earning some money and if you're temping you are free to go to interviews too....I temped in some really crap jobs but met people through that and was offered some great jobs just because of that....but also, I like to work and earn my own money too.....sometimes you have to do crap to get somewhere else......just my view..

With recruitment agencies, it's about showing willing. Be a yes man lap dog for a bit.
