It's not your choice whether you go 30 or not. If you choose to break it then its your problem if you get caught.

Maybe if the police come down hard on you you'll realise it was a stupid thing to do.

i did similar except i went a lot faster and undertook about 8 cars including a police car.
i was in a huge rush and it was an emergency but never the less i got caught.

even though my job relies on me driving i was looking at a 28 day ban plus points plus a huge fine and possibility of being charged with dangerous driving.
luckily i got away with just 3 points due to a technicality.

have you asked to see the calibration records?
many times the police dont bother doing it as it takes time and most people dont challenge it.
is your other half insured on the car?
if so claim you dont know who was driving out of you and her.
its then down to the police to prove who was driving in order to secure a conviction.

Oh poo! i sold my ZX7R Ninja and bought my lil SV650 last year to KEEP my sodding license....

That's the main reason why I don't have faired bikes any more. I've looked down at the speedo on a sliproad expecting to see 50 and it says 80 .... bye bye CBR. . . hello Hornet. The lack of fairing gives a much more realistic feeling of speed.

Sorry to hear of your troubles though.

Oh, one other thing. . . . . 60 in a 30??? WTF were you thinking?

Forget about being done for dangerous driving. Speed on it's own cannot be dangerous.... 61 in a 30 - the magistrates have to consider a ban but you could escape with 4-6 points and a fine.

ill do the old "I got FIVE kids to feed" line to the judge! Isnt it fantastic how even though i know its only my fault, my missus has to over emphasize the fact. I could always break down in tears in court.....................erm.......Or not!

*** There is no valid excuse but perhaps you were rushing to the hospital with a lady in labour or you had just bought new shoes, it will be close mate but best of luck in keeping your licence.

I know how 61 in 30 looks but the reality is that it is not always as reckless as they make out!

Not really answering the question is it ? You deserve everything you get in my opinion. I hope it's a long ban as the roads will be a little bit safer without you on them.

As far as I know, forgiveness is for the benefit of the person doing the forgiving, not the one being forgiven

Yes well done fat pete! Thankyou for your valuble input in this matter. im sure i can rest assured knowing that you have expessed your wisdom and fair opinion. Im sure im the only person to have done something silly. So then, lets hope i get a "long ban" so the good people of the UK are safe from my evil and reckless soul. With some luck ill lose my job too for added measure. Maybe we chould make motorways a 50 mph zone too as that would keep our roads safer for you?.......Drive safely now friend!

The UK is a Police state when it comes to hitting motorists for fines/bans.

You get a smaller fine in many cases for violent crimes or theft than you do many traffic 'crimes'

Is someone who breaks a speed limit realy a 'criminal' ??

Guess were all criminals then

I got a charming letter from sussex police today. Will i lose my license?? its over double so im fearing the worst!.......Anybody else been as reckless as me?

this was a long while ago, but I got caught doing 67 in a 30 when I was 17. (14 years ago!).

My boss wrote the court a letter (I was required to appear in court even though I pleaded guilty by post) to say that I would lose my job if given a ban.

I got a huge b0ll0cking, £200 fine, and six points.

I used to walk into a room full of people & wonder if they liked me..... Now I look around & wonder if I like them

Get a letter from your company stating how important your license is and how you could lose your job if a ban is anything over 2 weeks 9i.e. over and above what you can take as holiday). Then show how many dependants you have on your job i.e. wife, kids, cat etc etc

It can only help but challenging it if you are guilty will not only be costly but more likely to wind them up

If guilty i would go guilty and enter the above for consideration

Driving is a tough case. If you end up killing someone is that worse than theft?

I agree with Wronggun,
You are more likely to bet given a more leanient sentance if you plead guilty, but give reasons as to why you need your license,
I know again people are really quick to think that you are satan for speeding, but I am sure that 99% of the popultion have broken the speed limit at some point in their life! Whether they knew it or not!

Dont get me wrong I am not saying that it is ok to speed, I think that there should be more 20mph zones in places like city centres and school area's, But like 70mph on a motorway if 1950's speeds!
My car is capable of 170mph, but I can only do 70? what is the point?

My work depends on it too. im skint at the moment so a breif is out the question. Damn roadside cameras. I guess il have to face the music and be a man about it..........Thanks kiddies!.......Mart

If you can prove that you NEED a license for work then you 'may' be able to keep it. My mate had 14 points but kept his license as he proved there wasnt a reasonable bus route from his home to his work place. They gave him a larger fine and serious last warning...
