Good luck for the meet Dave. One more week? Excellent work going on.

When is the GBPF 3 lift comp? I will need to bust my ass to get a total and then maybe see some of you fellers at it.

meet report from the BDFPA unequipped nationals in Bournemouth

Saturday - left Exeter at 530 to take Paul to weigh in. He lifted in the afternoon and did a solid shift after a ****ing long day. I slept funny on my right shoulder friday and by the evening it hurt so much I could barely move it - wasnt hopeful benching the next day but I iced/massages it and got drugged up.

Sunday - added heat pad and ****ed off to bournemouth from home. Warm ups good enough

Squats -

170 - pissed it for equal PR
180 - good lift, got onto my toes a bit so this was harder than it should have been, 10kg overall and meet PR
185 - PINNED

Bench -

warm ups felt surprisingly good, so i upped my planned opener from 100 to 120 (would have been 130 if i was 100%)

120 - smashed it, obviously
130 - ditto
140 - smoked it, 5+kg left on the platform here

Deadlift -

220 - smashed, minimal thinking
240 - good lift
252.5kg - 2.5kg PR

total - 572.5kg, 17.5kg PR

Won the U23's and came 6th in the open. Happy enough with that.
20kg to go.

Massive congrats Dave. Another sterling performance in front of the judges. You need to update your signature now cos you're creeping ever closer to that 600lb DL.

200/150/250 for the 600 total. Obviously some variation. It is doable by sept. A big ask I think but def doable. In other words a great goal to work towards

If you didn't **** your shoulder up spooning Paul the night before, you'd have been good for a bench PB of 150kg. The DL is already comfortably at 250kg so you just need to add some kgs to your squat. Sounds simple on paper!!

I think mine will look like 190/150/260. That is very doable by september I think, good 6 months of training to add 10kg to squat and bench and 7.5kg to the deadlift.

Had a week off after the comp, then went on holiday for a week. I needed the break as I'd had a bit of a skinful after the comp and felt ****ing horrendus!

Ball
mobility
stretch

(for about 30 mins)

squat

bar x 10
60kg x 3
100kg x 3
120kg x 3
140kg x 3
150kg x 3

all pretty easy and tidy, good to get back under a bar

squat morning thing - recommended it by a friend, wont be trying it again 3 x 5 /60kg

KB swing, kevin 3 x 20

Good to be back in the gym, I ll be 'reloading' this week and then back onto some 531 the after the weekend.

Few notes to self about what the **** im going to be up to henceforth:

squat - more volume, less hard pushing on the top set (I think I had the strength for a 190 at the comp but I was all squatted out by the day).

bench - sort my ****ing shoulders out by doing a lot of pulling exercises with minimal pressing to the chest

deadlift - keep as is, been working great. Im weak at the top so maybe add in some rack pulls or something like that but no pressing need to worry about it.

overhead - actually do some of it and start doing lots and lots of downsets in the 45-55 range

accessory - up core work, up back work (back wise im thinking a lot of DB rows and weighted chins).

light weight, yeeeaaaahhh buddy

Good plan.

As for the bench I would recomend still doing work to the chest. Either light or try some narrower benching which can take the stress of the shoulders. Plus as a raw lifter anything above a 2 board isn't gona be worth it. 1,2 board work, and floor pressing would be my list of lifts if you want to reduce benching heavy to the chest for a while.

GBPF nationals in Birmingham sept.

My right shoulder that was killing me at the comp has flared up again so whilst its bad im going to stick to a closer grip to a foam roller for a week or so until it calms down. When it ****s off I ll obviously go back to the chest, probably with a slightly narrower grip as you say.

Shooting for 600kg in sept...very big ask!

ball
mobility
stretch
facepulls

bench, narrower grip, to the chest

bar x 10
60kg 3 x 3
80kg x 1
100kg x 1
120kg x 1
*add foam roller*
120kg x 3
120kg x 3
120kg x 3
*roller out, shirt on*
140kg x 1 no touch
150kg x 1 no touch
150kg x 0 touch, no press, got the shirt in the wrong place a tad
*shirt off, roller back*
100kg x 10

all the stuff to the roller was sunk as far as it would go and paused there. All pretty easy. Nice to do something a little different. This narrower grip lark seems ok, see how it goes over the next few months.

DB row

12.5kg x 5
40kg x 30
40kg x 30
40kg x 30

loads of band face pulls, few curls, general ****ing about.

Feeling a bit better today, getting keen to smash some weights next week.
20kg to go.

I think you should stick at it. I also think if you do stick at it I'll do you a deal on the shirt.  Did you get anything out of it at all or is it just too baggy?

Where did you bench? I thought you were home this week.
