no, fuel is still being used, but what you get is fuel at 50p a litre... so effecitly double the mpg.

Ah right, never thought of it like that, makes sense thanks so still a good deal then money wise, as I live in the East Mids and family still live up in North East Scotland so looking for a car that I can get dogs and luggage in which doesnt cost me the usual £100+ round trip and seen a few of those 4x4 LPG conversions around for decent prices, so wondered of they woud be cheaper to run that a big diesel car like a Volvo V70 or similar sized car

have you considered an estate? smaller engine, can get lpg conversion, big space, cheap to run, cheaper on tax and general maintenance such as tyres as well.

yeah the Volvo V70, had an old Volvo 850 Estate, loads of space for everything but it was the 2.5 petrol so gutsy as hell but thought of the V70 diesel but the purchase prices are very high as I have an old BMW E30 Touring at present which is only a 318 so not too bad fuel wise but its just too small

basically you just need to sit down and do the maths mate. work out the distance your travelling, the fuel used, which = the cost. then work out which car is more eco friendly to your wallet. bit of a pain in the arse i know but if your going to use the car all the time then you will need to do your figures. include the purchase cost of the car, the depreciation, maintenance cost, etc. diesel is another option. my pug 306 does about 50 odd mpg. if i drive about in 5th a lot then i get a lot more than that, i can put £20 in and it will last me about 1-2 weeks depending on my foot and even at 70mph i still get damn good fuel consumption. what about a mondeo diesel estate? ive heard they are good mpg. depends on budget though really. my mate has a shogun 4x4, thing is like a tank, nice drive, comfy, and gets average mpg, i can imagine with lpg they would be cheap to run as well. not sure on maintenence costs of an lpg system though... thats something to bear in mind.
