Bodybuilders' Bargain Buys and Offers
-
10 February 2008 16:47
This sticky replaces the old one and is for all bodybuilding, health and fitness related bargain buys in respect of food special offers in shops or online. What's on offer near you or nationally (or internationally)? This is not intended for posting up supplement offers either online or in shops, simply everyday foods we all use in our diets. Just post up the item, the store, price, length of deal and where abouts you are in the UK or abroad, along with any other conditions and information

ORIGINAL: Nigeepoo Rosso e-mailed me the following link Swanson Health Products - High Potency Vitamin D-3 That's a 50 days supply of 5,000iu for ~£1.75 + P&P. Hmmm one question for you Nige is, could there be some 'wrong' with some of these offers as they are so cheap compared to what i recently paid for my US order (8 bottles each containing 120 capsules) for about £95 including postage? I mean are they products the same or is the cheap one realy cheap and nasty for a reason?

If it says x000iu of D3 on the label, it must contain that otherwise Trading Standards (or the US equivalent) will prosecute them. There may be differences in filler used or capsule quality. I don't know what the profit margin is on Vitamin D3 but H & B must have been making a fortune when they were charging 35p/day for 5,000iu/day. Their current special offer costs ~7.5p/day. VRP costs ~10p/day (incl p&p). Bio-tech costs ~4.5p/day (incl p&p) and Swanson costs ~3.5p/day (not incl p&p).

Zip-vit: Omega 3 fish oil caps, buy 1, get 2 free!!!! http://www.zipvit.com/cgi-bin/vitcart.cgi?dstart#A320 Not sure on the rating of EPA and DHA but i bought 3 packs so thats over 1000 caps for 15 squid. I know they have the high strength caps @ 360 for 14.50 but thought this might be sligtly more cost effective. What do you think nige?

I can't be bothered with 180/120 caps as you need to take 6 or 7 a day if you don't eat oily fish or take flaxseed oil. 1000 of your caps will do for ~150 days which makes them slightly better value than the super-strength ones which do for 120 days at 3 caps a day.

Guys (and girls), I went into Tesco today to get some Green Tea. Their tesco Finest Green tea is being discontinued so a box of 50 Green teabags was 1p. Yes thats right, £0.01!!! I snapped them all up. 7 boxes for 7p. This may be the case in other tesco stores - I am not sure. Maybe someone could confirm the next time they are in. P.S. they were wel in date. They are to be used by June 2009.

70% off on all fruits & veg at Lidl... I know they are not all very fresh, but fruits like grapefruits/lemon/pineapple, veg like onions/sweet potatoes are worth buying at this price... & they have a range of organic veg as well...

Definitely going to try some pineapple from Lidl - my dad just came back from China with 4 pineapple carving tools for removing the eyes easily :) Went to Makro in Rayleigh in Essex on Saturday and was going to pay £20.99 for 5Kg of Chicken breasts, when i noticed the non "portion controlled" packets for £16.99 so got those instead. It seems to mean that the breasts are inconsistent sizes. Bargain! Separated them into roughly four breasts a time at around 800g per 4 breasts, premarinated a few with soy/sesame oil or herbs and salt and pepper. Also bought 2 packs of 1Kg of Swordfish steaks - frozen, which were £3.74 each packet and picked the ones with 4 bigs steaks in each. Nearly forgot about the 1Kg of frozen king prawns at £10.98 but Buy One Get One Free. Couldn't resist
