OFFICIAL PREMIER LEAGUE 09/10 MT THREAD - 31 August 2008 18:09
Sorry if theres already won, i didnt see one, its also abit late but hey.

Well done to spurs getting a draw out of chelsea.

As for lpool well benitez is really pissing me off now by starting a team with no wingers, and then taking off a striker for a midfielder near the end of the game, lpool were awful yet again, i think benitez may of been hoping for another late goal like i was, but lets be honest hes obviously happy with the draw when he took off keane and brought on benayoun. The idea that agger hasnt played a sec this season seems worrying also, thank fuk we are getting riera a winger finally. If he continues fukin about im afraid its 3rd or 4th again. I dont know why he doesnt play babel more either, he confuses and pisses me off, i appreciate hes accomplished alot but the first 3 games as a lpool fan ae very very frustrating. Right now i wouldnt mind a new manager becasue benitez's selection is quite shocking.

There's no quality wingers in our side anyway, pennant should play every week for me, is he injured?
Babel is not naturally left side so just cuts inside all the time. That NGOG was terrible today, very lazy from what i could see.
They where terrible, we should still have knicked it tho, how did keane miss that, he shud be controlling it down instead of waiting for it to come down, you could tell he was a bit nervy there, even tho it was borderline penalty.

There is no pace to liverpools attack anymore, we need to bring back the days of pass and move, lol, there is not enough movement off that ball, the likes of chelsea/arsenal are much better and results show.

Benitez is a very defensive manager, we cant complain about the defence, its probably the best in the premiership, or right up there since he came.

If it wernt for stevie g the last couple of year we'd be finishing 5th/6th.

Nasri aside, the gunners were pretty awesome against the Toon.

Also watched the gunners Euro game. Felt they lacked ruthlessness in front of goal. Really miss a selfish goal poacher.

Liverpool have had the luck of the gods this season but it's still their best start in how many years? I'm not surprised 'pool fans are still unhappy with it

Nasri is looking like a really good buy and already giving us more than what we got from Hleb,

we are short of a poatcher type striker but eduardo was doing well in that role before the injury so its unlikly he will sign a striker altho i would love to see huntellar or owen come in.

we need a def mid at the moment, as denilson is doing an ok job, but gives the ball away a fair bit.

who he will sign tho u can never tell with Mr Wenger

I'm just happy Spurs finally got a point, and that Bent got a goal, if we can bring another striker and sell Berbastrop then I'll be even more happy!

Unbearably lucky goal though for you spuds.

Seems you scored and then were pretty content with a point, not a great came from us either.

Hoping that the Robinho deal is done tommorow to inject something new into our team. The way Madrid are blasting us reeks of hypocrisy after the Ronaldo saga mind you.

Huntelaar is awesome!

Owen is going nowhere. The contractual issues were because he wanted less money for a longer contract (5 year IIRC) but he was offered a shorter contract but with more money.

Keegan mentions that no player is truly safe from the transfer market and the rest is just media spin.

We're (Newcastle) allegedly going to sign 3 players tomorrow, though I very much doubt it.

Apparantly Saviola hasn't played today, could be going somewhere.....

Management hypocracy seems to be the theme this season. O'Neil rabbiting on about the Gareth Barry saga but then utilises the same tactic to unsettle James Milner. Though at £12m, that's good business!

I reckon Southgate is going to have a good season. He projects stability and burra are steadily improving.

Boro are looking a good outfit this season, Southgate has done well in the market as well as keeping hold of Mido and Tuncay, along with Alves they'll get a lot of goals between them. Alves is a battering ram but has flashes of brilliances too, may see him at a top club in the next season or 2 IMO.

He's done everything he can to get away, but it seems Madrid are reluctant to sell. Very strange for us to sell SWP before this deal was tied up.

i hope united bring in berba or hunterlaar.

chelsea bringing in deco and possibly robinho has upped the ante somewhat.

if united dont bring in another striker and chelse bring in robnho then ill start to worry
deco was a steal at 8million£

yeah don't get me wrong SWP is a good player but goalscoring was not something that he was renowned for

i'll be watching MOTD tonight to see if he is still fast (not seen him play for a bit)

kompany was a signing that puzzled me a fair bit

cracking player but essentially a centre back which will work if richards moves to the right but he also likes playing centre, so where does dunne fit in?

to be fair henry has only 5 hours to sign doesnt he?

In answe to your q's, imo.
1. We only bought 2 unless I'm mistkaken. Berti who plays at LB, and Kompany who can play DM or CB. Zabaleta can play anywhere on the right, but I think he is cover for Elano, or vice versa.
2. He's a classic confidence player. Not a prolific scorer but his goals are always important.
3. He played very well against Sunderland yesterday, he will take several games to come good.

Also a little help .. which striker would you say is performing the best this season ? and who looks to carry on scoring .

I dont follow football very closely , watch a few games , read a bit in the newspaper but my home team is in the championship

Well none of the "big 4" strikers have really got into their stride yet.  Some of those from smaller teams, such as Agbonalhor, Defoe and Ashton look like they could actually challenge for golden boot.  But it is early days.  If you are talking fantasy footy, then any of the above could be a good buy as they will be relatively cheap.  If you want to spend a bit more, Van Persie might be a good bet - if he can stay fit.

Defoe would be a good bet and SWP and as stated one of the "big 4" strikers should hit some form soon.

Re:PREMIER LEAGUE THREAD 08/09 - 01 September 2008 14:02
as a pool fan i too am gettin so p*st off wi rafa not starting our best team!!
babel should start week in week out.. he wont become the player many tip him to be if he sits on the bench all the time while that cart horse of a player kuyt starts down the right every week!!
i dont think we were that bad yesterday to be honest. compared to the last two games we played much better football. once again xabi showed why we cant lose him.. and havin masch back made so much difference!!
him and xabi play much better in the middle together than steve g does with either!!
we lacked ruthlessness in front of goal (for the chances we got) and that is down to no natural wingers!! i agree i think penannt should play as he is our only real right winger, and on his day is in fact a very effective player!!
i think when gerrards back he should maybe gett some time on the right and cutting in behind the front two, with babel and riera on the left!!
to pay 20 mil for keane and play him on the left wing is utter stupidity!! we should play 2 up front, and let them do what comes natural, which for keane would be to drop off now and again...
with keane conciously droppin off torres, it gets pretty congested in the hole with gerrard doin the same..i thiknk xabi and mascherano compliment each other much better than steve g does with either one of them, but obviously u cant drop gerard!!
anyway, rant over... im disappointed with our start even if we have 7 pts..i want to see signs that we can beat the better teams and so far and i havent seen one thing to suggest we can!!
cheeky bid for owen tonight me thinks is in order!

i know mate..
babel dint even get a game which just astonishes me!!
one of our best players goin forward and has pace to burn yet he puts on benayoun who at best is a good cup player!!
its just another one of those excrutiatingly frustrating times as a pool fan!!
o no wait a minute...... weve signed someone!! its.. its... another f*ckin youngster to rot in the reserves and then get loaned out and never see him again!!
its gettin quite depressin how we just cant compete in the market at the mo.. spurs have more power in the market, city now look ot have more power, then theres united and chelsea obviously!!
not happy.. i think it may be time for rafa to leave.. along with the yanks!!
