I did do chins, stop nagging you slags They always pul on my old forearm strain tho but I think I will make a point of using them periodically.

No13: I think the cats would love a rabbit Would there be enough for 3 to share

No session today. Had to take the day off looking after my boy again. Altho he's clearly a lot better now so I'll be in tomorrow. Bit of a blessing in disguise tho I think, what with today being legs. I think they need the extra break. But I did see my osteo on Sat (really went to town on me, felt likeI'd had the sh!t kicked out of me on Sunday) and it does actually seemed to have eased the strain somewhat oddly enough, also got an extra stretch or 2 to work on to help it out. We'll see. This was only a 5 rep week anyway

Cats are awesome, the youngest kitten is mental. One of the sisters has come out a bit the other is still quite cautious but she's a gorgeous little thing. Mrs spent a fortune on a 7ft scratch post (reaches the ceiling), a whicker basket for them, new bowls, bloody Catscan litter (£5 a bag FFS). They've been fun tho.

LOL you fcukers.... I would have gone if the Mrs hadn't laid down the law that he was too ill for school still.

As for the cats, well they use our storage baskets for scartching on for now but they have kipped in the basket (well one has) but they've all crapped in the gold plated kitty litter

Hmm... I'll get to work on feeding the little ****er up then!

Anyhoo, plans for tomorrow? Any expectant pb's? Will you catchup with your leg session or go straight to chest/back/shoulders?

Re:Dirty gets back to basics - 11 January 2010 19:24
Nah, not expecting much special tomorrow (chest and bis) as I missed pressing on Thursday (delts and tris) too so it's been a little inconsistant with push work since and over xmas. I'll hope to match my last week of 5s and then take it from there.

I won't catch up on the leg session tho. I rarely catch up on missed sessions, they are few and far between so I just chalk it up as extra rest (which I probably don't give myself enough of anyway) - even more so with legs considering this ongoing niggle that I'm hoping to be rid of ASAP.

It's a split level. There are 2 'resting' levels and one with a house thing on it - I bet it will hardly get used.

I tried to see our work physio last week but she was busy, she's meant to be getting back to me for Thursday but I haven't heard yet. It does seem to be easing slightly, it's when I go for the 200DL I scupper things. The osteo work on my hips does seem to have helped tho, and hopefully these extra stretches will do something

Re:Dirty gets back to basics - 12 January 2010 17:43
Don't want to jinx myself but my leg is feeling a lot better today, not perfect but notably better. Alas my session today was not so great. Maybe partly in my head, maybe due to the lack of OHP and tri work over the last 6 weeks but I struggled....

CHEST

Bench Press: 5x60, 80, 2x90, 1x110, 120, 5x125  then 110x9 w/120 or so secs rest..... last time I did 4 on 127, I knew on the 120 that that was never going to happen and the 125 was a challenge, still, at least I did 5. Droped 1 on the blast set too
Incline Press, DBs: 45sx10, 10, 9 w/90 or so secs rest..... a good bit down here even with being sensible and aiming for 10s this week. Might have only done 8 on the last actually.
X overs: 45 for 7 sets of 11 w/30 secs rest.....back to cables this week. Felt good here and actually managed to hold my ground- just.

BICEPS

EZ Bar Curls: bar+ 40x9, 9, 8 w/90 or so secs rest..... stuck to my guns here (see what I did there LOL) decent sets thankfully
DB Hammer: 10s for 7 sets of 10 reps w/30 secs rest..... just aimed to hold my own here too, which I did no problem

usual roller and stretch to finish

Bit of a crappy one but it's ground I should get back in no time I hope. I just can't afford to take time out from pressing for some reason, could have been worse tho.

125x5 is far from shabby though to be fair.

Solid session though, which is what you want really after a rest/missing sessions.

Re:Dirty gets back to basics - 12 January 2010 20:03
Cheers mate. That's what I figured, avoiding the mistake of forcing the issue with pressing that I have done ever since I started lifting - I never do it with other lifts. The target is X reps so I put on the weight that I thought realistic.

As your here, bud, I wanted to start off the year giving you props for getting me out of the rut I was in with my training and giving me the boot up the backside to genuinely try something I usually brush aside. I've really enjoyed these last few months training and hope to reep the rewards this year.

... and obviously, while I'm at it, a thanks to everyone else (Iain, Mr.M, No13, AK, Val etc) who give me the feedback and motivation I need to keep the right mentality and motivation week in week out. Maybe one day I'll do something with it all if I can.

However, it dramatically improves the chances of entry for 3 kittens. 1 tried getting in there the other night when my Mrs took the hamster out. We have a few hamsters buried at various locations tho - I fear for this one too if my step son gets involved in it's care.

Just done my hours cardio playing bball. I seem to play better when I don't practice during the rest of the week either, either that or I just don't care if I play badly because I haven't practiced. Bit of a petty one today with all sorts of foul calls getting made.... cardio done tho

Re:Dirty gets back to basics - 14 January 2010 17:23
Right, first things first. Today was my second OHP day in about 5 weeks so wasn't expecting much....

DELTS

Standing BB Push Press: 5x40, 50, 3x60, 2x70, 2x80 5x85 then 70x8 w/120 or so secs rest..... thankfully I managed to match my last week of 5 (which was sometime ago now) but not easily unfortunately. Just played it sensible on the blast set too so stopped a coupel shy of my last run.
Strict OHP: 60x 8, 8, 7 w/90 or so secs rest..... lost a little ground here, good sets but hard work.
Side Lat Raise: 15s for 7 sets of 9 reps w/30 secs rest..... and just stuck with 9s here which was hard enough. Decent sets tho

TRIS

Floor Press: 100x8, 8, 7 w/90 secs rest..... bizarrely I held ground here, altho my bum was lifting ever so slightly on 1 or 2 reps.
Dips: BW +15 for 6+1 sets of 11+10 reps w/30 secs rest.... and actually improved on these from last time

Usual roller and stretch to close

A far from impressive session but hopefully all will be back to normal from here on in.

Just got out from letting our physio loose on my hamstring. Fcuk me that hurt. She really went to town on it, and my adductor which seems to be the main protagonist. Fingers crossed it has helped and I now know where to focus my attentions a bit more. But, man, I could have sparked her out, it really was painfull

Jury is out on whether DLing tomorrow is wise or foolhardy

Deadlifting with a suspect Hamstring?

Unless you plan on limb prosthesis in the near future I would perhaps take a moment to think on that

Am i to understand you use a foam roller for some self myofascail release?   I have such a roller here but have not put it to use much, worth a shot?

What happened to the addage 'that which doesn't kill you....'

I do indeed use a foam roller. They aren't bad but the genuine foam ones don't last me much more than 2-3 months before they soften too much to really offer anything, so I'm investing in a firmer plyurothingy one. If you have never used one tho the firm ones may be a bit painful and the foam roller would be a good starting point.

Have a good roll then a good stretch

Re:Dirty gets back to basics - 15 January 2010 13:43
The moment of truth. Been a while since I've done my 5 rep week on DLs too...

BACK

Deadlift: 5x70, 3x90, 2x 130, 1x170, 5x190, then 10x120 explosive w/2mins or so rest..... 10kg up on my last 5 rep week, and it went well (altho the last could havebeen better) Felt solid tho so I'm happy. Speed set up 10 too.
LPD87.5x12, 11, 11 w/90 or so secs rest..... back to LPD this week, nothing special, just held ground.
Seated Hammer Row: 95x 9, 9, 9 w/90 secs rest..... each set up a rep there
Pullover (Tri bar): 65 for 7 sets of 10 reps w/30 secs rest..... smaller, lighter bar so less garvitational assistance hence the slight drop in reps

Usual roller and stretch to close.

Good session today. Touch wood, the leg has faired well. Obviously not 100% perfect but a huge improvement. With any luck it'll not act up PWO.

Cats have started making themselves at home and you can hear them belting up and down the stairs at night, then the kitten kips under my feet in the bed and one of the others is coming in season so she meows like a good-un - so might times are taking a bit of getting used to again LOL

Re:Dirty gets back to basics - 18 January 2010 17:02
After missing last week I wasn't brimming with confidence for todays leg sesh...

LEGS

Front Squats: 5x60, 80 2x:90, 100, 1x120, 127.5 3x132.5 then 8x90 low box w/120 or secs rest.....  had to dig deep to get the triple today but get it I did. Lost a rep on the box work at the end but that's OK.
Leg Extensions: 95 x 3+4 sets of 9+8 reps w/30 secs rest.... few sets of 9 this week. Good sets still.

SLDL: 130x 10, 10, 10 w/90 secs or so rest..... all 10s this week.
Ham Curl: 50 for 5+2 sets of 8+7 reps w/30 secs rest..... no change here but solid work.

Calves Press:
150kg for 5+2 sets of 11+9 reps w/30 secs rest
.....all calf stuff in use today so I achieved the ultimate improvistation. I gripped the power rack in my hands, with all the weights loaded on it still, and just did calf raises this way rocking it up, LOL, it worked... I think

usual stretch and roller to finish

Not a bad session. Leg felt fine during the session, a bit delicate now but that's still to be expected but no trouble while training.

Having a nightmare at home with 3 female cats coming into season, randy little slags the lot of them. Thankfully it looks like the cats protection league are going to send me 3 £50 vouchers towards the costs of neutering them so they'll be done ASAP.

Zach's now got a chesty cough thing, he doesn't seem 'ill' so hopefully I'll still get to train this week but we'll see
