I did 10.07 on an Army PFT last week - nearly puked at the end as well!

Beat quite a few of the boys so reasonably pleased - aiming for sub-10 on the next one in 5 weeks.

Thats rubbish mate, 11.30 in corps will get you a nice smiley red fail mark.

Its 10.30 across the board. And that is after 2 mins best effort pressups and 2 mins best effort sit ups, with a minimum, at my age, of 44 & 50 respectively.

        Stab?

Can you have to do those sit-ups with your feet held in place?  I can never get my body to come up otherwise!

I'll give a 1.5 mile course a run in the next few days.  I got 6:31 for 1.0 miles this week, but I've not done any hard running in over ten years.

Lifts are 190 SQ, 180 BP, 255 DL... I've always done fairly well at both explosive and endurance stuff.

Yes mouser.   You work in pairs, one person does the situps the other holds his feet.  Arms need to be crossed across the body hands on shoulders.  If they leave your shoulder on the lift then the rep does not count.

              Thanks mate.

I've got an interview for an officer position on Monday, so I'm going to do a mock one this weekend (complete with pressups, situps, chins & warm-up) to see where I stand.

Today I tried doing a mock fitness test:
                Pressups 80
                Situps 55
                Chinups 25
                1.5 miles 11:16

The road was bloody hot today, and I obviously put too much effort into the earlier exercises and didn't leave enough for the running.  I'll have another go at the run later today if I'm up to it, hopefully closer to 10:00 as it was more of a jog than a run for much of the way if I'm honest.  Still, better to make the mistakes now rather than when it matters.

Rather than making a new post I'll edit this one with an update:

1.5 miles this evening when it was nice and quiet (no cars) and cool in 10:16.88, a minute better than my previous attempt.  I also checked the route for my last attempt and it was a bit short of 1.5 miles, so I've cut more than a minute off my time.  Only an 800m (0.5 mile) warm up this time.

                    Hi guys,

1.5m in 12:51, which is not a patch on you army boys, but on a personal level I was pretty chuffed with that, still plenty room for improvement tho.

Mouser, 6:31 for a mile is f***ing good mate, nice one.

10:10 today, uphill and into a headwind, with a pause to help someone asking directions .  I'll cut quite a bit off that soon enough I'm sure.

As I predicted it was a lot quicker the other way without the uphill finish and the pause to help someone.  There's a net 13 ft drop over the course going in the direction I took it today, and with very little wind I managed 9:06.43 .  I'm not sure if I'll be able to trim much off that without a lot of work, but it's made me want a sub-9 time now!

I've got a date for the AOSB briefing too at the start of November.

Cheers   If I was being conservative, it would be 10-20 seconds more on a flat course with zero wind I'm still happy that  it's comparable.  13 ft over 1.5 miles isn't a big advantage.

My knees don't like me now, but my fitness is getting back to where it used to be.  At one point my VO2 max (Concept 2 rower estimate) was nearly 70 mlkg-1min-1, it's a little over 50 now.  I guess fitness returns quicker when you used to be fit, rather like muscle memory.  It would be easier if I lost some weight too, but I'm happier with my current build.

I have done it in 9.45 a couple of years ago, and during my period of longer distance running I was doing the first 1.5 mile portion of a 5 miler in about 10:30 ish. Its HIIT all the way at the moment though.

Government have screwed the economy so they have pretty much closed down the TA until April to save money.  Only personel going on tour will train between now and then.
