You cant really compare treamill / road and track runs. Even road v road is going to depend on the individual course.

On a 400m track I'd say sub 8 mins was decent.
No biggie like, there are a lot worse things for you than using steroids, I mean I probably shouldn't have been smoking crack or getting into bar fights at your age TBH  - drab4

What is @ 400m between friends?

So I'd extrapolate(sp) that to about 8mins 30 for 1.5miles which I reckon is good on the road.

i know they cant compare as everyone will do it differently , like boar with a backpack. but its just a guidline and a time to look at.

Totally agree.  You cannot compare treadmill to proper running.

As said 10.30 is the slowest army time allowed for standard troops.  Take longer than 10.30 and you fail, simple as.  It certainly wont guarantee you a job in the SAS, maybe the SEALS though haha

Yeah ok fair point with the SEAL debate.  Ill try and give them an argument they can actually win :)

I can run amazing times and distances on a tread mill compared to what I can really run in reality.  Think tread mills are great for returning after injury and def better than doing nothing.  But real running is far far harder even if it is flat.

How long you been running mate to get a 10 min time?  Can I ask your height and weight and age also? Interested for uni assignment I am doing.

Sorry i think people misunderstood, my aim is to get below 10 mins....ive not timed myself yet....but i reckon im at around 12-13 mins at the moment. Ive only just started running again recently as ive had pluerisy since october and only just got rid of it at the end of december. Im also losing weight aswell as i have alot of work to do hence my name onefatidiot, my journal is in my sig.

27 , 5ft 11 and coming in at 17 stone at the mo , looking to get down to 14 stone i reckon and get sub 10 mins on the 1.5 and good times on the 3 mile aswell.

British forces are better but then we have to be.  We are a very large world power with a super small population and armed force.  Our standards therefore have to be extremely high as we cant waste one person.  America on the other hand have a huge population.  Its a quality v quantity thing I think.  Anyhow, dont want to side track your thread.

If you can get your time down to sub 10.30 then you can boast your Army fit.  This could be a great goal for you dont you think.  Also 30 seconds easier to achieve than your current goal.

Think you should change your name to onefat determined to get fit person. This would suit you better!

Any naturally fit person can be fit.  It takes balls however to run your life around and these are the people I respect most of all.  PM me when you reach 10.30

Any naturally fit person can be fit.  It takes balls however to run your life around and these are the people I respect most of all.  PM me when you reach 10.30

to be better than you have to be is always the best way ,thats the way i want it

I will reach sub 10 , dont know when but it will happen

americans are always the same , everything has to be bigger and better and definetly quantity over quality. However their narrowminded mentalily doesnt usually stretch beyond the boundries of their own country. Nothing exists to them beyond america...well not all of them just a majority :-)

11.15 minutes with shin splints, was not fun at all!

Btw 10.30 minutes is only required for infantry in the British Army, for corps it is 11.30 minutes.

And 10 minutes is definately not good enough for SAS selection.
