Re:2009 Junior Natural Mr Scotland *****COMPETITION PICS PG 10*****

09 June 2009 14:47
Well thought I would get round to writing my report on my experiances and try and include all the thank you's to everyone who has helped and supporte me along the way. On the Saturday began the finishing touches. Went over my self again and again with the razor trying not to miss any little hairs. Think I managed a pretty well and I now have a good idea what women go through hehe. From then I began tanning for the show. The girlfriend is just amazing and helped put on every layer. I used Jan Tana which was fine however I think I need to prepare my skin a little better to give a more flawless look. Between about 8pm and 10pm I drank a bottle of dry white wine. This was tough because after the first glass I was hammered lol!! My friend who was traveling down with us arrived to help out with the tan a little and take some photos. Hes been great supporting me all the way and occasionally when he can coming for a gym session. Finished off the wine and the last of my chicken for the day and went to bed. Woke up with a pretty bad hangover. Didnt get the best of sleeps, I think probably nerves and pre show thoguhts etc etc. However got up promptish at 7am and had my lovely chicken, rice and broccoli. Nothing like it to kick start the day hehe. The girlfriend helped again with the tan just applying one more coat. Again so much running through my head, am I dark enough, do I need more carbs. Packed the bag with everything I needed just at the right time because all the other supports and friends had arrived ready and eager to see my tango man face. We headed off at about 8.30am. Stopping off at Stirling was helarious because just as we arrived a bus load of school kicks, presumably on activities week, pulled alongside us as I had another coat of tan put on. They all grabbed there cameras and had some little giggles. This was really funny with a small crowd gathering lol. Got a group photo done with all my friends and made the last leg along to the SECC. Arriving at around 11.30am we were bang on time for registration. The friends said there good lucks and sent me on my way to the changing/prep area and picked up my numberm which was to be 17. Took up a wee spot in the corner and just tried to relax as everyone began to arrive. I took a good look around to assess the competition and see who I was up against. I was pleasantly suprised to see there were 9 competitiors in my class which was great to see. Chatted away to few guys about the usual training, tanning and night time wine drinking. The novices and teens were before the juniors so only really had a short wait. I got hold of one of the backstage tanners and they helped touch me up once more and put a little glaze on. I never managed to get the mans name (he presented the trouphys to the teen class). He was GREAT, an amazing help and hopefully will be able to thank him even more at the finals. Felt pretty hesitant to carb up to much. I looked really good however looking back I think I could have had alot more than what I did, but we all learn lessons. I took 4 niacin tablets and glugged down a good mouthful of brandy. I began pumping up and then got lined up for the show. The nerves were really kicking in and now I really knew who I was up against. Some great physique with one or two I thought were definatley going to push the result. Prejudging went very well. Needed to keep my legs alittle tighter but all the poses went like clock work. So that part was over and I just needed to keep things steady and on track. Went up to my friends and sat with them. They gave me a huge boost by just being supportive and LOUD lol. Had a couple of chicken, rice and broccolli meals and then it was time for the night show. Again got the same guy to get my tan and glaze ready and carbed up a little more. I never took niacin for the evening sho just to see the differance but next time I think I will. Again I pumped up and then got lined up with the others. By now we were all chatting away to eachother and having the usual pre show banter. That was great really enjoyed the taunts back and forward all in the name of jest. Routine went OK could of been better because half way through I just forgot everything and went for a free pose routine. Seemed to work and goot a good reaction from the crowd. Came off stage and then back on again for some more posing and our pose down. Stayed pretty close to one of the other competitors who I thought was going to be my main rivel and just did everything he did for comparison. Again the banter continued which kept us smiling. And then to the results. WOW now this was nerve racking. I wanted this more than anything. People had been saying back stage I looked the best and posed really well but that didnt matter. What came down to it was this moment and whether or not the 16weeks of strict dieting, early morning runs was enough. I waited and waited as 4th and 3rd were anounced. It took forever and then 2nd place to.......( there were still others but I knew that I was surely at least top two) number 18 and then I knew I had it. The winner and Junior Natural Mr Scotland goes to number 17 Gordon Greenhorn. Ubelievable, just lost for words. This was singlely one of the happiest moments of my life. I had worked SO hard and put nearly everything for this contest and it had paid off, I had achieved my goal. I had my urine sample taken after all the bits and pieces. This was the first time I had been drug tested and it was a little strange but all has to be done to ensure the transparency of the sport. I was in the overal and I just wanted to enjoy it. They put me next to the obvious overal winner which I lapped up and made sure I didnt look out of place. David, the overal winner, was a great guy very humble and gave some top advice. Hopefully I will get to meet him again. Well hers to the thank you's. To everyone a the show who helped back stage tanning, prepping and chatting, thank you again you made it amazing!! To my friends who came all that way to support me. You were loud and proud which made every moment even more special. To the tan man again thank you for your help and hopefully see you at the finals. To Nuffield Health and the general manager Steve who has supported me up to the contest with membership and various other bits and pieces. To extreme nutrition for there support of supplements and clothing. To dawn aka kitty who I met at the show for her words of advice and wisdom, great to have a outside view, thanks again. To all my competitors who were fantastic banter and made the day brilliant. Last but not least I thought I would thank the GURU, my YODA I think someone said, James Coullier. I feel I have the ability to focus and train hard however its the small things that make the differance and I do believe James made a HUGE differance in where I would of placed!! Thank you again and very much look forward to working with you VERY soon. Thanks to everyone on muscle talk I want to answer all on the forum but just cant find the time at the moment. To you all thank you and wish me luck at the brittish.

Great stuff Gordon! That's an interesting and enjoyable write up. Thanks for the compliment at the end (inc the typo in my name!), but really there is no need, you are the one who put the work in - I just sit on a pc telling you what to do! Speak to you soon - do you need an 'off season' plan?

Well a quick update. Things are really good still buzzing from the win and pinching myself every so often. I dnt think theres really a sport where you put so much in and when you get want you have worked for its just the best feeling in the world!! This week I have trained a little bit at the gym. Just a few weight sessions because I'm away on holiday tomorrow for a week. Diet hasnt been great to be honest been nibbling a little, well alot in fact lol. Anyways I thought I deserved it after 16weeks of absoulutle strict dieting. Will back live and kicking after next week. James has put together my 'lean bulk'. This will include cardio at 40minutes 4x per week. I've just read the report of the BNBF website and it is really good. Very chuffed "the most heavily muscled in his class" and I thought I was a small junior lol. A great reveiw and glad with the last part of saying I will be looking to place high at the finals. Top 5 to be honest is my aim and anything above that will be incredible. Didnt get much feedback on what I can improve on. I know I'm going to bring the same package but I feel a little tighter to make the legs pop out however if anyone has any pointers then please fire away.

Ok well back from holiday. I've had 2weeks of of no training no real diet, just relaxing and enjoying time with the girlfriend. It was great to have the time off however I was itching to get back in the gym and really didnt know what to do with myself with out the structured plan of what to eat and when. Whilst on holiday I think I've gained about a stone. Looking smoother but still a little six pac poking through. Dont want to gain anymore weight and stay as lean if not leaner I will be working with James again to prepare for the Brittish finals on October 4th. He has put together a lean bulk diet which I will post later on. My training will go back to heavy with 1 minute rest times. Looking forward to getting my strength back. James has included morning cardio as well with 40 minutes 4 times per week and my weights will be 5 times per week with split body parts. Thats pretty much it for now. I will keep things updated as daily as possible.

kitty Welcome back, was thinking you'd gone all quiet. Glad you had a nice time. Hi Kitty, Yea took alittle time off to spend with the girlfriend and family. Maybe had a few treats over the 2weeks however back in the gym and eating lots of good source proteins, carbs and fats. I actually missed the eating and training was itching for the whole 2weeks to get back on track. Only gained roughly 6kg in 2weeks so hovering around the 80kg mark which is where I want to stay before I cut.

Today was fine, had a day off work so eating and training all on schedule. Had a cheat meal today. However was unhealthy at all just 'old el paso' crispy chicken fraijtas with a mixed salad. SO GOOD anyone should try them. Weighed myself today. Weight gain hasnt been bad at all tbh sitting around 80kg just where I want to be. I have asked James if he thinks using vitargo might be better than maltodextrin. It was suggested by a gym buddy so well see what he thinks.

Just busy with work and bodybuilding I suppose. In my experiance I have only ever competed with the BNBF. There is another that I am aware of NPA (natural physique association). Both have a very good standard but I can only really comment on one. The BNBF are great and put on a very well put together show. Organised with weights and tanners/oilers backstage to lend a hand. They have water everywhere just incase and this year they had some cheeky wee muffins which I gladly had 3 of lol. The shows tend to spread themselves out over the summer months. With the Scottish happening in June and running all the way through to August up and down the country. As regards supplementation I keep it pretty simple and with things that are KNOW to work, whey protein, creatine and I am about to try beta alanine. I do use maltodextrin but I am giving vitargo a go to see if there is a little difference. This will be my first lean bulk so I will be interested to see the results. Currently hovering around 80kg and hopefully I can hold that and come in tighter for the Brittish.

Rayner23 wow buddy this is 1 of the best journals ive read!! u total got what u deserved, congratulations!!!!:-) i want to do the natural in st albans or manchester, man ive got so many questions i want to ask u, but know u rob havnt got the ime and dont wanna bore u ha!! but im 24 and never competed before so is there a 1st timers in natural or would i hve to be in the novices!? ur pics look awesome, id be happy if i can look half as good!! cheers mate Hi Rayner, Thanks very much. Always a boost to get postitive feedback. Well all I can say is give it a try. Bodybuilding is a great sport, even with the unfortunate public stigma. The federation I compete in is the BNBF and they have a novices which I beleive is for anyone who hasnt placed top 3 in any competition. Check out there website www.bnbf.co.uk Rayner if you have any questions of any kind I will be more than willing to answer them for you. Either PM me or pop a post on my hournal. Thanks again for the comments.

YOU'VE DIETED FOR WEEKS FOR THIS!!! ENJOY!!!

The last few days have been grand. Eating, training, working and sleeping. The cardio set for me hasnt been easy to squeeze in but I will definately try. Already completed two. Its been difficult becasue I've been working late so getting up early hasnt been the best. Fitting the cardio in and all the food isnt easy when you dont get to bed until around 2am. Trainings been great. Amazing pumps and lifting like an animal lol. Really wokring on the lower abs to bring them out better for the Brittish. Today training the quads so going to try and bring them out better. Especially for the front relaxed!!

Rite I have been pants at keeping things updated. Well its my BIRTHDAY TODAY woohoo. Still going to the gym though lol and still eating to the diet lol. However tonight I will be dining at a nice steak restaurant and having a fair few beverages. Cant wait, feels weird to be 22 though lol not old to some but the next big ones 30, oh me!!! Training and eating is just grand. I LOVE THE BODYBUILDING LIFESTYLE!!! I dare anyone to try it!! Strengths going up but my condition is holding nicely, 6pac is still there and there are hints of striations in my chest and delts. Legs are fuller but with a decent amount of seperation. Well I think I will head of and enjoy the sunshine along with a brief shopping trip to asda. Oh ITS MY BIRTHDAY AND AL DO WHAT I WANT TO lol.
