OK, this is my first post, so here we go...
I’ve been weight training since I was about 14-15, but didn’t do anything for the last couple of years. In Feb 2009 my weight rocketed to 87kg/192lbs (from the usual 73-75kg).
I joined the gym and spent 1 month killing myself with weights and cardio (treadmill) ....and it got me exactly nowhere; I was still at 87kg! That was without a proper diet, just basically doing weights and cardio. I was trying to eat healthier but not really paying any attention to the number of calories I was consuming (I thought that counting calories was for women, no offence :) )
Realising I’m basically wasting my time I decided to Google for some information and suprise suprise muscletalk came up.
After reading up for couple of days I took the following steps:
- Introduced more cardio; doing 5 days a week outside, instead of 2 x 20min session in the gym. I started with 20 mins slowly progressing to 1 hour (8 miles) and occasionally doing 1 hour 30 (12 miles) mins on Saturday/Sunday if i felt like doing a bit more. I use to absolutely hate cardio, but I do really enjoy it now!
- Started counting calories. The first time I counted how much I ate in a day I was truly shocked! It came to about 4500k! And that was after I sort of switched to a “healthier” diet. Had to completely change my diet, threw away everything I ate before; introduced plenty of veg, cottage cheese (love that stuff), turkey stakes, wheat bran (excellent filler!)
And after couple of weeks I got to a point where I was steadily losing 0.7kg a week (edit: was "a month")!
Sometimes I felt like it wasn’t worth it and was thinking of giving it up (that would usually be after a heavy cardio session J) but the next day I was ready to do more. I was also trying to spice up my routine by getting myself new toys every couple of weeks, either a new supplement or a gadget something like a watch with a heart rate monitor etc. Think that really helped the motivation J
In the very beginning of all this (Mar 09) I set a very very optimistic target for myself: to reach 72kg by 1
st of July 09 (15kg/33lbs loss). There was absolutely no way I could actually reach that target but still decided to keep to push myself harder.
Well, by 1
st of July my actual weight was
71.4kg! Could probably get it down all the way to 68kg but thought that at 68kg I would look more sick that healthy. (I’m 6’0)
This is me almost at the end of the cut (15 June 09 I think, at appx 74.5 kg)
Since then I have been slowly lean bulking; I’m now 75kg and looking a lot fuller.
I know its not the most radical transformation but for me its a result :) I never actually lost any weight before!
Thank you to speak me! J
