Daily Mail - such negative female articles. 30 August 2009 12:08 (permalink)
If I'm having a slow day at work I tend to have a quick nosey at the Mail online and I am getting really angry about some of the articles.  What also gets my goat is how contradictory their articles can be.

For example when Jodie Marsh did a photo shoot showing her new more muscular form she was praised.

However now that Jessie Wallace seems to be doing the same she has been absolutely slated.  I think she looks fantastic.  She is clearly someone who has yo yo dieted over the years and now that she seems to have finally got the hang of doing it in a healthy way, she is critisised.

There have also been a number of articles about "real women".  This involves putting a slightly curvy although still slim model into outfits that celebs have worn.

It just makes me soooo angry.

It's true. The mail is especially bad for this but

Negative sells. I work with some celebs and I'm always amazed at how different their lives and personalites (and even body shapes) are compared to the picture we get from the papers.

The Daily Mail will often take completely diametric stances on the very same subject. A good example of this is the difference between the 'facts' on health issues raised in the Irish Daily Mail and the Daily Mail (same company - same paper) because the audience is different.

Papers say what sells. They don't present facts.

tis the nature of the beast.
There masses of places online that you could have an nosey at and be informed and entertained rather than enraged. Or maybe you had a subconscious desire to be enraged

Don't worry so much about it, the papers work is to "create controversy", wind people up and sell newspapers. There is the example of the funeral of Senator Kennedy being shown live, and some papers slagging him off and claiming he was this, that and the other just to sell papers.

Notice the negative comments about her smaller bust. Ahem, female breast size is directly related to bodyfat percentage. She has reduced her bf, got fit and improved her diet - yet is still judged on her breasts!

Broad shoulders? They don't suddenly grow in 6 weeks, and if she has gone from a 16 to a 10 she must have been rather broad to start off with.

This is exactly how society becomes ignorant about exercise, then slags off anyone who is fat!

Women are always judged on their breasts

            Broad shoulders?
I spose they'd look broader if her waist had gotten smaller....no matter it's 'unfeminine' and as such must be stamped out!!

As Jodie Marsh still has gigantic knockers it obviously doesnt matter how the rest of her looks!

I suppose that is the one good thing about these articles, the fact that we have the opportunity to reply.

Most of the public who have commented can see how narrow minded the reporter is being.  There are the few odd exceptions, but interestingly most of the negative comments are from women.  Bizarre!

Just ignor the Daily Mail.  It's an awful paper which thrives on negativity about everything.

If you want to be depressed, then read the Mail.

The media are well and truely hideous in my opinion, and i feel women/girls everywhere are effected by what they see and read in the papers. I thought it was awful that the media felt the need to plaster natalie cassidy's weight gain across nearly every page! Ive gained weight this yr which is horrid enough without seeing my picture everywhere saying im a moose! what the hell does this tell our youth today (im a youth tody ha).......er......rant over :) xxxx

Problem is you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. A celeb makes an effort to lose weight or enhance their physique and gets slated for it, they put on weight and they're sent to hell.................probably all written by some ugly fat bint who sits at a computer drinking high street bought latte in a paper cup and eating a blueberry muffin wondering why she can't lose weight herself so the little yellow demon sits on her fingers and makes her type hideous comments.

I'll throw my 0.2p's worth into this...

Articles of this type are destructive and vexing! They promote stereotypes and the ignorance of many is further reinforced. As has been mentioned above, Ms Marsh was given a glowing review because she is still seen as cheesecake for obvious reasons.

Ultimately articles of this type are there to shift copies.

My advice, as tough as it is, move on.

Caster Semenyer has also been reported to have had a makeover for a French magazine, to make her more feminine. If you read the interview carefully she says she hardly ever gets to wear dresses.

Now, why would that be?Because she is a high standard athlete?Spends more time concentrating on training and diet?Heels and frills are not something compatible with being an athlete on an hourly or daily basis. I bet Mr Bolt doesn't hang out in suits and dress shoes every evening. More like trainers and jeans.

I was reading a mag the other day that one of the girls had brought into work. I finished reading this article and I was actually, physically fuming !

As soon as I have a spare 30 minutes I will be emailing in to complain ! Man arms my @rse !
