Was seriously thinking about it, there's the European Boxing Federation who run this kind of stuff, all above board apart from the licence thing...I think, anyway its well run etc but you could end up fighting an ex pro etc, anyone can enter up to 50 I think...don't be going to any caravan parks to do it though, some guys just wont go down no matter how hard you hit them lol

Where are you mate? Have a look at prizeringboxing.com Its run by a guy called Alan Mortlock (well known guy around Essex and London). Puts on some really good shows and if your honest about experience etc you are going to get a half decent match up. They do have a few ex pros but cater for alot of guys of all levels. Good deal on ticket sales too! + medical cover on the night and a few well known faces thrown in. Worth a look bud if your thinking about it

As alreaqdy said, loads of my friends do it (Run by EBF) but the mismatches you see are laughable and you often get matched up on the day so have no idea who you are fighting You might end up fighting 4-5 stone heavier, or a guy with 60 amateur fights and a pro record as well, when you have had 3 amateur fights or something lol My mate also weighed in with a fat white bloke who he was meant to be fighting (dont know why they bother weighing them in as there is no real weight categories) and when he came out to the ring he was met by a ripped black guy lol

Sounds dodgier than the amateur circuit then! How much money is involved, for the fighters? Is it something you can walk away from without too much aggro?

Been too some my mates ex pros fancied it for a laugh but i saw fat over weight fools who puff after not landing the big un and drunks but also ex pros who were very handy and nasty with it,id not do it as its too miss matched and variable These were in clubs i hear field fights are on the rise but are for chavs and gypos
Everyone has been in shape, but not everyone is IN shape, its about where your going not where you have been.

Usually paid through a ticket deal, you get £5-10 from each ticket you sell (£25-30 a ticket), at least that seems to be the score at the EBF ones up here in Newcastle Some lads get a purse for £200-300 as well/instead of a ticket deal Like Brucie said, some ex pros do it for a laugh/some extra beer money and take the piss out of their opponents..Not uncommon at all

Guess i've been lucky by the sound of it! I can only speak as I have found but i'm sure there are some slighty more dodgy organisations out there. Trouble is - what are our options? I'm 38 - too old for the amateurs and BBBofC would never issue a license at this age (only ever boxed as amateur but got fed up with opposition not turning up) so options are; - Unlicensed - with the 'risks' mentioned above or,
- White collar - but why knock your pan out training when the best you can hope for is a draw (TRFC - its about taking part...) I would rather lose but know why than hammer a guy a get the draw.
There are some other white collar organisations about but I have seen ex pros and good amateurs boxing on them and hammering the opposition so I guess the risk is there whatever. These guys boxing on these shows is no different to a juiced up, synthol filled bodybuilder entering a drug free contest - what have they actually achieved? I'm sure there is a massive opportunity as a promoter here to set up an honest, equal organisation that gives 'joe public' the opportunity to fight fairly with a like for like opponent. Any takers..........................

I'm sure there is a massive opportunity as a promoter here to set up an honest, equal organisation that gives 'joe public' the opportunity to fight fairly with a like for like opponent. Any takers.......................... Just to pick up a point, I boxed amateur but I'm still technically unboxed as I never had a single opponent turn up in two years of holding a licence in 3 years of training. Also spectated a lot of amateur events and it was almost like the results were pre-determined; no matter how the fight went, it was like the judges had already agreed a winner beforehand. People would get knocked all over the place and win! Also got tricked into attending for a fight at Kendal town hall, when we turned up, we were basically told "too many had turned up" so they were going to reorganise the fighters and match it up there and then. Turns out it was basically to put on a show for fat, local business men and they matched up complete novices with people who'd won 8-9 fights. I was matched up as unboxed with a lad heavier than me and with 5 or something wons on his card! Farce. Thankfully my trainer took us all (there was two adults and 3 or 4 kids fighting) and took us all home, pulled us out the comp. Everyone seems to be in everyone elses pocket. I'm 25 now and just been back boxing a fortnight and it feels good.

Its a heartbreaker mate - it's not like you are fighting for a world championship but that does not stop you from stressing yourself out re the result (and everthing else) only for the other guy not to turn up or to find as you said, that it was going to be unlikley you would have got a bout in the first place! That ultimately why I stopped. Best thing I did however was to get back into training. Not sure where to go from here re unlicensed or even white collar (I have actually found a couple of places locally who offer 'real' bouts) but at least I'm sorting my life out again - worst case scenario I will get back in shape - we all know what boxing training can do

Fought 3 times under 'un licensed', more like white collar though. Only one has been dodgy so far, my last fight in a caravan park near blackpool that resembled a wild west ranch. My opponent was getting bigger as i was driving down the motorway. Got a decent lift out of it for 6 minutes work though (3 x 2's) but he was a big bugger. had 2 stone on me I'd say. Got the decision anyway.

Are the crowds generally well behaved? Ive never been to one but a friend has a bout in 3 weeks time. Its in London.
