It looks like the majority of people are in the 30kgs to 40kgs pair with the 40kgs to 50kgs pair coming second based on the votes cast.

When i used to DB press as my 1st exercise on chest day, i was using 46kg DBs, could have gone heavier but these were biggest in the gym. ive not flat DB pressed for a while tho, i now flat BB press as my 1st chest exercise and DB incline press after 3/4 sets on BB and use 39kg DBs. i voted 100-120kg as ive no doubt i could flat bench 50kg DBs+ if i had access to them and hadnt BB benched before hand.

50kg-55kg per hand for incline for a set of 6-8. Over 60kg for 2.

So I ticked 120-140kg.

Im not as good on flat for some reason. Maybe 50's for 8 tops.

22kgs *hardcore*

I used to bb press but then did a training session with James we used the dbs

Find it a much nicer, smoother lift and it forces my weaker arm to catch up.

I get a much better ROM on the dbs than I ever did on the bb

EDIT: for clarity, that's 22kgs in total so 11kgs db

22.5 kg in each hand, and was pretty pleased with that tbh, lets see in a couple of months.

As long as you put 100% effort it feels good to conquer the DB's. Concentrate on correct form and you will see good gains. Welcome to the dumbbell game. !!

There`s one thing that always gets me with these threads about how much you can bench, squat, deadlift, etc,

What about the weight you are using compared to bodyweight?

A more realistic question would be -

Can you dumbbell bench press your own bodyweight or more?

And then give a list of options, eg, -20kg, -10kg, even, +10kg, +20kg, etc,

At the moment I am using a pair of 30kg dumbbells, so 24kg below BW in total.

Dumbells in my gym only go upto 37.5kg hence why I will be changing as soon as possible!

Normally do 30kg in each hand for 10 to 12 reps per set.

I know what you mean. Many commercial gyms just have a collection of DBs so as to look complete, so you cannot have heavy DBs to work your stabilisers.

My gym max's out at 50kg and I will use these towards the end of my chest workout for maybe 6-8 reps.  Have used 55kg at another gym but because of the lack of reps I feel it's a bit pointless.

Currently 42's on incline for 7 reps after 5 sets using BB so I recon I'd be good for 50kg dumbells fresh on the flat.

Somebody did mentiond a bw comparison.

Straight bw comparisons are not really a great way to compare performnace between idividuals.

It will tend to place to high an emphasis on lighter bodyweights and too little on very heavy bodyweights.

This is why sports such as weightlifting and powerlifting have come up with more complicated formula to compare lifts.

I'd much prefer to have heavy dumbbells passed to me. Pain in the ass otherwise.

i think it takes a lot out of you just getting them up there, therefore messes up your my reps

well i filled it in wrong cause i only read the title and put down 40 - 60 but then i read that its total so it would be 80 - 100 as i lift 42.5....

should change the title to incorporate total as its a bit misleading.

what is the point in this anyway?? i havnt read through the whole 4 pages so this might be covered somewhere else.

Because its been revived i may as well answer.
3 x 8 on 36kg at the moment. That's flat bench without a spot but hopefully will be moving up soon.
