Second journal , Training like a ballbag for endurance and abit of strength. - 19 September 2009 23:27
I am making this journal for the purpose of recording my training rather than concentrating on weight loss. I want to start entering charity events such as bike rides , runs , climbing etc etc and devise my own events for me to push myself to the limit , i have a few events in mind that i would like to set up myself and they are considered tough , so i need to improve myself first.

I will record my training in here and see how i progress while still keeping my first journal for weight loss , pics , stats and motivation.

FIRST JOURNAL

I will use any training methods and ideas as i would like to start using the garden alot more for training instead of most being concentrated in the gym. Even if it is lifting bags of shingle and concrete slabs instead of weights.

I do still have a reasonable set of weights/bench i have enough for just over 100kg on the bar or around 35kg on the dumbell.

I have a boxing bag still set up aswell as i used to box alot a few years back but gave it up and also have an exercise bike which i use alot and have done over 100 miles a day on before and some 30kg bags of shingle , jerry cans and whatever else i can find lol , would like a  power cage of some sort aswell but really cant be bothered on buying a new one , will look on ebay and see if i can get one and weatherproof it.

My aim is to beast & push myself as hard as i can and get myself in top physical condition.

ANY ADVICE ON TRAINING OR ANYTHING IS WELCOME.
Especially pointers and tips for equipment that can be used outside.

Have a few targets to hit aswell , weight wise.

Never really lifted weights properly , just came straight in at them.

Deadlift 200kg.... most was 137.5kg , was a while back and have not done any since...was within my first few weeks of lifting though.

Bench 100kg......Best was 80kg at same time as PB deadlift.

Squat 100kg.......Never really done any , but done them light at around 50kg was worried about doing them on my own.

Just been sorting out abit in the garden

Boxing bag has been moved from inside the garage and fixed to the wall outside

x2 30kg plastic cans of water.

x1 weatherproofed york weights bench. With bars which fit around 100kg of plates on , need some bigger plates really.

Got a few bits on watch on ebay that are local ,not alot there though....was hoping there would be more.

Going to the garden centre tomorrow and focus to see if they have any sandbags or heavy stuff lol would prefer that as its alot cheaper and i wont care if it gets ruined in the garden.

Still want a powercage or something similar , or even make one?????

Good stuff mate, your current goals are very similar to mine - if you want someone to enter events with I'd be interested.

Will keep an eye of this journal, promises to be good one.

May be an idea mate

Will do some nice and easy runs/cycle etc etc but i have some proper hardcore endurance events in mind aswell

Just take things how they come and see how i progress , i am expecting to do well. Finding normal gym routines rather boring at the moment , find my own way and pushing myself alot better lol

Most people dont agree with how hard i push myself , can get annoying at times.

Damn pumped and wobbly after that workout , feel good though and good to be back at it. Was tempted to do more , but thats enough for one session on my first day back.

May do some light cardio later this evening though.

Did you do any warmup sets of the deadlifts? Or jump straight in at 100kg? (Not a criticism, just a question!)

Thats a lot of reps on the deads! Why? If you don't mind me asking?

IMO keep the reps low and weight high for strength.

I have rather simlar goals, strength but fitness at the same time.

Good luck with this.

Mainly endurance and still losing weight , my bar can only hold 100kg until i get some new plates and i never feel satisfied keeping it small reps and heavy weight.

Still have bad doms from the deadlifts , lower back , arse , hamstrings :-)....ah well , no pain no gain! A right pain sitting on the toilet though haha Will get the DOMS out of the way now so my body can adjust to it , rather than me getting them after every workout.

Going to start the bench press @ 15kg today and work my way up.

Day three

Bench press , close grip....down to chest and fully up locked elbows

50 @ 15kg
25@ 20kg
25@ 20kg
25 @ 25kg
15 @ 25kg
10 @ 30kg
15 @ 30kg
5 @ 35kg (Crap)
5 @ 35kg
3 @ 40kg
3 @ 40kg
3 @ 40kg
2 @ 45kg
2 @ 45kg
1 @ 50kg
55kg , Failed like a muslim trying to eat pork! Half way back up from chest & had to back out
1 @ 50kg
2 @ 45kg
2 @ 45 kg
2 @ 40kg
2 @ 40kg
4 @ 35kg
2 @ 35kg
5 @ 30kg
3 @ 30kg
7 @ 25kg
5 @ 25kg
10 @ 20kg
6 @ 20 kg
36 @ 15kg

281 bench presses , not too impressed with that but it will do......Pouring in sweat and got me extremely pumped.

Nearly dropped the bar @ 45kg on the way back down as my daughter decided to ask me a million questions while i was doing it.

Was boiling hot out there , sun was beaming and bench was in a sun trap....got abit of a tan aswell.

Agree, certainly mental!

Why don't you try some circuit style routines if you are looking for endurance?

Remember boar used to do some pretty crazy routines if you are looking for inspiration!

Yes mate will start circuits soon , really just adjusting myself and throwing myself in to it. Get rid of the DOMS aswell after training sooner rather than later  , if you catch my drift.

Did look at boars stuff when i first joind here , will take a look through his journal over the weekend.

Squats next , abit worried as i dont have a rack/cage.....might do them at the gym! takes the fun out of it though for me.

I want it to rain , so i can train in that! love it , cold weather aswell.

Yes mate , want a full set of proper weights.....just never get round to it.....did have 300kg worth of plates but got rid. Want a cage , but i like to look after everything i have , so will just get a tatty one from ebay or something and weatherproof it as i just would hate to do that to a brand new one lol

Joined a few gyms , always end up leaving though as they dont like how i train....one especially turned his nose up at me , which pi'ssed me off. Abit of a snobby place , so i should have expected it really.

Joined one recently that has an excellent olympic set up and cage , everything i need. Will start going there to do squats and a little extra to build up my deads etc etc get on with the trainer good aswell , should hopefully be working there abit when i have my gym/trainer quals.

Ah sounds good....I find training at a gym much more motivational then training at home...allthough I never really tarined at home much apart from a few sessions in my mates garden.

just having other guys around you lifting and in good shape helps keep me motivated.

plus it boosts the ego when you look better and bigger then other people in the gym

good luck

I like training at the gym sometimes , but i just find i push myself more at home.

I couldnt go in the gym and do say 3 hours on the bike , but i could do that at home. To be honest , i do not really like people watching me train as i always get the same questions aswell "why do so much" ,  "whats the point" or they just look at me in a puzzled way if i have been there a few hours. I tend to like going when its not busy and i can use equipment as long as i want.

To be honest and not big headed :-) , i am getting rather big and getting some quality results. So i like to stick to what i am doing as i know it works for me and i am happy. Spending too many days in a row at the gym , knocks me out of sync with my routines.

I used to be quite big before the weight gain , had 16 inch arms....not sure how big they are at the moment , but i am going to go bigger than that.

It's all trial and error and like i said , the error for me seems to be going to a gym.

I was going to finish the garage conversion and make that a gym , but the lure of a 100inch home cinema is too much

I will be getting a studio together once i am qualified aswell , so will get a decent olympic set up/cage then

Dead lift DOMS are finanlly gone , just abit still for the bench pressing but nothing compared to the deadlift ones.

Not sure what i am doing exercise wise today , just going to take my whey and caffeine and wait for it to kick in.

May do some military press or squats or maybe even both. Going to have a good session today as i have the house/garden to myself.

Day five

Standing military press
, only tried this once at a gym when i went through a whole body work out with the instructor. Taken off floor in a deadlift motion , then up to chest. Once finished , back down from chest to waist in deadlift motion.

Your training is immense mate. No surprise at you failing on the heavier military press weights after all that volume.

I'm by no means an expert - quite the opposite in fact, but would it be worth going for the heavier weights after a warmup and pyramidding (speeling?) down again?

Yeah i did that with the deads the other day and went all the way up with bench press and then back down again , trying a few different ways to be honest.

Will just see how things go.

Not decided what i am doing today , i keep avoiding the squats

Took it easy in the end today, just took daughers down to sandbanks and stocked up on food from makro.  but tomorrow will be a different story have the house and garden to myself again , so it will be extreme.

Day six

Nice journal you got here. Nice to see that you are having fun which is what its all about. You got bored of the gym changed to something else and loving it!

You should try the 300 workout sounds like the kinda of workout your looking for.

and get on those squats mister.

I know what you mean though as I train at home and dont have a spotter. But if your in your garden the worst that could happen is you drop the bar on the grass.

Have to say without a rack or some form of safety equipment i'd never attempt back squats, risk for potential injury is high IMO.

Cleans, hack squats even front squats to an extent I'd do, but not back squats.

Mental military press session followed by a 5 mile run!!

Did you time the 5 miler, just out of interest?

Get some push presses in there too, love em!

Good stuff

Around 41 mins i think , i didnt run all of it either.....run , jog , walk , run, jog, walk etc etc last time i done 5 miles i nailed it in 58 mins , so a good bit of time shifted.

No rack , No spotter = no squats

I cannot handle being injured , messes me up. Even DOMS i hate , so the thought of a proper injury is a no go for me.

will take a look at this 300 workout you are talking about
