Constipation help - 22 October 2009 13:47
Hi all,

Bit of a dire question really about stools/constipation.

I am currently cutting on around 2800kcals a day PCF is 40/40/20, all of my carb sources are complex and im taking in around 30g of fibre a day from various sources including fig syrup, flax seeds and through veg/fruit.

Im also taking in around 6 litres of water today, I take vitamins but no Iron.

Ive also trying various natural laxatives and super dosing vitamin C which has worked in the past but for the life of me im only ‘going’ around 1 day a week and its very painful with a fair bit of light coloured blood.

Any suggestions on how I can sort this?

Ouch mate, hope you get sorted!

I tend to find (and this really is more detail than I would normally like to post!) that my 'movements' really change with my state of mind. If I am stressed, wound up, tired, overworking etc it has a massive impact on my 'movements'. If I am relaxed, happy, calm etc then it's clockwork.

I can't help you from a diet point of view mate, but I just wondered if your state of mind and stress levels change during cutting and how big an impact that would have? Are you normally alright.

Sorry if I am talking crap here mate (could resist lol)

Hi Mate,

Sounds like a similar problem that I have. I tend to sort this by eating bran flakes a lot of the time as they help to push it all through.

Another thing that can stop it is certain painkillers. When I get bad headaches I take cocodamol which cause me to get bunged up. Sometimes like you takes a week to go and when it does it hurts and there is a bit of blood but nothing to worry about.

Maybe gives prunes a try as well mate, they were boss at helping me go.

Your diet sounds pretty sound from the point of view of fibre and fluids etc, so only going once a week is a bit concerning and so is the blood - although this may well be due to the straining.  Maybe try the suggestions above and if no positive result I would suggest maybe going to the Drs to see if they can help.

ty for the replies guys n gals.

The blood doesn't worry me much, sorry to be crude but its bright red (surface tear) because of the stools hardness/size, if it was dark red that would be a whole other kettle of fish.

I guess i'll just keep taking more fibre in and possibly drop my protein for 1 week in every 3 (currently sitting at an average of 240g a day).

I think ill have a "crack"  at some prunes this weekend!

Buy some psylillum husk, works absolute wonders for me when doing a keto diet. I was taking about 5g twice per day i think.

I'm the opposite, when im bulking theres no kepeing me off the toilet, normal movements but 4 maybe 5 times a day, guess its the increased calories?  Been overdoing it on mince lately, 3 times a day and every morning 2 visits before properly getting up
