Disgusting food
-
24 October 2009 22:16
What is the worse thing you have ate in the the name of bodybuilding? I have shovelled some amount of disgusting food in my gob just cause it was high in protein. The worse was when i made a chocolate protien omellete with added tuna and porridge oats for good measure, i managed to eat half before it went in the bin

if it's a shake anything goes imo, just get it down you. But to sit down to a plate of chocolate and tuna omelete is just asking for trouble.

I grill 8 breasts on Sundays. Use them various ways, in salads, sandwiches, warmed in curry with rice etc. Very often in a hurry just blend one in water. Tastes like cold chicken soup. Have to neck it in one go though, sipping is not an option.

I have to work away from home 3 days a week, I have 2 kids and a taxing professional job. I cannot sit down to 7 meals a day, simply not possible. I need to get 4000 calories. DO you have a better idea ? Think before you post.

What's the kids & the job got to do with it? I work long hours and have 2 kids but don't have to resort to chugging down stuff i don't like. You want to eat like that then it's your business - you clearly don't enjoy it yourself though - "have to neck it in one go, sipping is not an option"

And even if I did choose to pack 1000 cals into 4 meals, I still dont have time to sit down to 4 large meals a day. the most I can do in peace is breakfast, lunch and dinner. The other meals have to be quick and efficient. And they are usually shakes: Mid morning quark and oats in water Mid afternoon tuna or chicken in water Before bed, quark and flaxoil in water I do manage a mid evening snack of quark oats and fruit

I'm not eating 1000 calories per meal, however if I needed 4000 per day I don't think it would really make that much difference if it were split into 4 or 7. There are plenty of palatable options for shakes that I'd rather try than blended tuna or chicken Can't comment on the Quark / Oats / water combo - though that doesn't sound so bad

Not too long ago while experimenting with both Gaspari Superpump and consuming whey/carbs 40 mins pre-workout I mixed powdered oats, raspberry reflex whey and tropical superpump in the same shake to save having to carry loads of shakers with me that day. Most rancid thing ever. If SP wasn't so expensive I would've chucked the shake away but needs must so powered through.

if I didn't save time I wouldn't do it. If you're very busy at work and have meetings and schedules you can NOT sit down to a plat of 250g grilled chicken breast. Or when you come home from a "just tolerated" training session and the wife and kids are waiting for you to do something you can not tell them to wait while you sit down to a plate of chicken. You may not have this situation but I do hence my methods. @ Mixer. You do need to get used to it. But now it's easy for me. I still think it's a lot better to drink a real chicken shake than a powder shake to get the macrobiotics.

S777 So how much time do you save by doing this method? two minutes? three? mate, we're not talking about a minnow here, I use great big frigging breasts, probably on AAS the birds, anything between 250 and 300g. Now sit down to a plate of chicken and see how long it takes you to chew. Blend and drink done in 2 mins incl washing up. Eat whole probably 20mins at least. and another thing. Cold chicken breast with some salad and dressing etc is lovely. On it's own it's pretty fukcing bland and doing that every day gets old quick. TBH drinking it down like a cold soup is more desirable- TO ME. But then I can do it.

a cottage cheese/protein shake. but i think the cheese was coming just to the end of its shelf life so it was a little on the sour side, i mixed about 200g of cottage cheese with 30g of unflavoured whey, 300ml of water. i managed one large gulp and i ended up spitting it straight out

Hey not having a dig, just trying to get my head around the pros/cons of your method and for me personally the cons of drinking a chickin would vastly outweight the pros. Then again, I work where I can eat as and when, so havent really had to think about this process before tbh. What I would liek to know is, is there any advantage digestion wise?

S777 What I would liek to know is, is there any advantage digestion wise? that's a question that has bothered me for a while and I cant find a good answer. I think that for a bulk it works well, but for a cut I believe that the digestive system works better when it has a chance to trigger gastric juices caused by sight, smell and taste; i.e. chewing your food might prepare your body better for the food it's about to receive and therefore cope better with nutrition partitioning. But I have honestly no idea. Off to blend up 2 tins (300g actual food weight) of tuna as there's no frigging way I'm going to sit and eat through that lot right now.

id presume it would be better when blended, on the idea that the nutrients would be asborbed at a much better rate and there would be no chance of any escaping through your system, but that is an assumtion.

thumbandit instead of drinking the chicken breast just eat it .... a chicken breast can be eaten in a minute or so walking along or on the bus or in a car or in the office ..... by the time youve blended it it would be eaten ?"? well obviously, if that were the case, I'd do it. But you're wrong, it isn't so I don't. I'm not trying to persuade anybody to drink 300g Chicken Breasts or 300g Tuna, but in a rush, with a busy lifestyle, there is very little choice for me. 300g Chicken breast, on it's own, with no garniture is very unattractive to eat everyday, with garniture takes probably 30 mins to prepare on plate and eat, blended and drunk down takes less than a minute.

let me give you another example. Yesterday morning- Sunday, the family had plans to go out to xmas markets etc. I had to be ready to go out with them by 13:30. So my schedule was like this 8:00 woke up, drank two shakes, 1 : 2 scoops casein protein plus 250g quark 2 : 100g oats then back to bed till 9:15. 10:00 whey shake, 10:15 green banana 10:30 hit gym, train till 12:30 pwo whey shake and milled oats shake 13:00 get home, family already in jackets straining at the leash, I have about 15mins to eat so 2 tins tuna (300g fish weight), blended and drunk down. 1 tub quark, 100g milled oats, banana blended and drunk down. job done within 10 mins My nutritional needs satisfied and wife has no reason to moan about my training. It's a fine balance my friend and you gotta do what you gotta do.

Northern Rocker if you're doing this you're doing it wrong. not really. it may "preferable" to split it into 6-7 meals in order to keep the body in the best catabolic state but that doesnt mean you have to. bottom line is callories per day. simples.
strength is in my genes, size isnt.........thank god for AAS!

It's a lifestyle choice, if he wants to do it this way then fine. But TBH EVERY man and woman alive has enough time to cook chicken if they absolutly have to. If he doesn't see it as a priority then fine. off now, gonna blend up 7 whole chickens and gulp it down.

JPaycheck Northern Rocker if I had grilled a chicken breast at 8:00 am on a Sunday morning my wife would have killed me. And besides, I dont want to eat grilled chicken for breakfast. tbh I dont understand your post at all. I LOVE a morning chicken breast, so nice. huh? Whats to understand? Just read it, it's my opinion. firstly, chicken for my breakfast meal which is at the same time my post work out meal does not suit my nutrition plan. What DOES suit my nutrition is plan is the meal I listed, it allows for a source of amino acids to quickly enter my blood stream and a good suorce of carbs which I let digest to fuel my training session. This is not the discussion we're having. What I'm explaining to you, is that occasionaly I blend up a chicken breast when my time for a proper meal is short due to family and work commitments. MY post work out meal is perfect for my needs and my workouts are fueled perfectly by that meal. secondly, if you'd read properly, you'd have noticed that I grill 8 chicken breasts every sunday afternoon. So what are you talking about when you say "TBH EVERY man and woman alive has enough time to cook chicken if they absolutly have to". it's absolute nonsense in the context of this discussion. Dont even bother replying, you've shown you have nothing worthwhile to contribute.

NR. I don't think he was having a go at you mate. I think the sentiments of his post were that everybody can fit cooking/eating into their day by giving up another activity, for example less sleep or whatever however, you see other things as a priority and so decide to blend chicken. I do still think I'd nail a chicken breast quicker than you could get the blender out, blend it drink it and clean the blender ;-0

Thanks very much Red Bull, that is what I was saying. My advice to you NR, and just to clarify, i mean this in a nice way, this site for people to express opinions and discuss, no-one is trying to get one over on people, so when people suggest things or join in a discusion then don't attack them. Cheers Red Bull

I usually eat 3 meals daily with high meat/fish content. Lunch usually 300g chicken or tuna fish, mid afternoon 300g Tuna, evening 300g rumpsteak or turkey. I eat these sources of protein everyday, without fail. I eat other protein sources such as quark eggs, powders etc at other times of the day. But every so often, I find I cant sit down to 300g grilled chicken breast because unexpectedly a meeting has been arranged or because simply, my family have been waiting for me to finish training so I could drive them somewhere for a day trip. On those occasions I find it EXTREMELY helpful, to be ABLE to blend up a 300g chicken breast and neck it, then blend up 100g oats with a tub of quark and a banana and neck that, and then be out the door. Not many people can do that, and I can understand that many people find the idea repulsive, but I find it genial. I honestly dont know why we're discussing this in such a precarious manner. It's just another tool in the box of tricks for bb.
