How are your joints? - 04 November 2009 22:36
Hi,

is it just me that has clicking wrists, shoulders and hips?
my knee and ankle click and are painful too, ive pretty much accepted they are kn@ckered but slightly concerned about every other joint!

just wondering how everyone else is getting on

i used to be in alot of pain before i started stretching and using a foam roller once or twice a day, alot better now, but still quite sore and stiff esp around my lower back and hips after sitting down all day in work

Re:How are your joints? - 04 November 2009 22:40
my knees get a bit sore if I've done a lot of exercise the day before but apart from the odd click here and there, I'm good.

I try to take glucosamine every day, don't know whether this has helped.

My neck gets quite stiff now and again from playing american football, from all the hitting. Wheat pack on it after being in the microwave helps though.

Painless clicks are nothing to worry about.

My joints seem reasonably healthy. I only train twice a week, so I get plenty of rest. My elbows are my least healthy joints, but only give me occasional aggro.

I get a bit of a stiff neck and have several joints that click. I tend to rotate my lower back and click that on a daily basis. None of these gives me any pain.

I do get a bit of a sore shoulder at times, my left was dislocated when i was a nipper and had a nasty knock when i was 15 and hasn't been right since.

Tempted to go see a physio/chiripractor/sports therapist about my shoulder but lack of funds puts it off.

Lucky you, I think I was assembled by Stevie Wonder. I creak and crack all over the place, my ankles are the worst when I go up stairs.

Dodgy left wrist from getting trapped under the bar all the time.

Dodgy left ankle, prone to soreness.

Do you mean 'clicks' or the sort of popping noise that you get when you crack your knuckles?  My knees are pretty bad for that, whenever I bend down my knees pop quite loudly.  Also my shoulders are really bad, I can make them pop to order by putting my hand behind my back

Most of my joints click and knees, shoulders and one elbow are painful when I train - years of abuse and 7 years of hammering my body when competing contributed I guess. Only started a couple of years ago surprisingly - I m now nearly 41.

RHF you have bad joints - you only look 18-20 in your avi pic.

I'm in agony every morning without fail, it's 45 mintes some mornings before I can even shift my head. I was going to make a seperate thread on this about those who post on Muscle Talk who no longer train, I'm at a crossroads with this, as I keep hearing the saying use it or lose it, then on the other hand the pain is at times almost unbearable.

Re:How are your joints? - 05 November 2009 11:56
I'm under a Rheumatoid specialist who as to see me twice a year, which on the one hand is cool as I can see him at request also, but on the other a concern as he needs to see me twice a year, which concerns me long term. I train more or less the same as I've always trained, things have altered all be it slightly as in now my training is like say 60% weights 30% stretching 10% cardio. I also cater more for recovery than I used to, but none the less all that said I do question training for me in this format long term. As regards having it checked out mate I've had the lot lol, Orthopedic specialist, Neurophysiologists, plus Physio, and copius amounts of drugs.

I think I have the joints of a 70 year old and I wish I was joking. I am in pain every minute of every day, for all those kids who watch WWE..........They are trained professionals, do not attempt to try this at home!
You left the cyanide capsules next to the Valium, you old fool. That's just asking for trouble!

I thought overall weightlifting was supposed to actually be GOOD for your joints, not bad ?

Re:How are your joints? - 05 November 2009 13:11
errr, not very good. they creak and crack, i get trouble in particular from both ankles (both sprained 3 or 4 times each) my right shoulder and my wrists (they take it in turns to play up)
i blame it on a lot of skateboarding when i was a kid, i dont mean just kicking a bit of wood around like a goon, i was pretty good, sets of 12 stairs, big gaps, handrails etc. also emulating jackass when it came out did me no good. these 2 things have contributed to at least 2 thirds of my 22 a+e attendances :)
i dont think lifting has helped much, either.
actually, while we are here, can anyone give siome ideas as to what this might be all about-i play rugby on a saturday, and recently, when i make a big challenge with my right shoulder, it sort of pops, and instantly my whole right arm gets burning hot, with pins and needles seeming to shoot up and down my arms?
my doctor pleads with me to stop weightlifting and rugby. oh yeah, im only 21 :)

I had a PM on another site about clicking joints and replied that them making the odd noise don't mean ****. But if you mean you can feel grinding ets etc that's a whole new ball park.

For me occasional right shoulder - usually during a heavy bench cycle (so right now then) and my damned back are pretty much it. But my back can be so bad I'm on my hands and knees or, as it is now, walking like a pained old man. I'm currently abusing the ass out of a TENs machine and Ibuprofen.
