Strikeforce Fedor vs Rogers spoiler - 08 November 2009 04:23
Awesome fight i thought there between the Fedor and Rogers. Quality right hand to finish it too.

I guess Fedor will fight either Werdum or Oveerem next, i dont think Werdum will pose much trouble based on his performance tonight. Shame he isnt in the UFC yet i still believe he would destroy Lesnar and everyone else apart from Nogeuira and maybe Velasquez

Damn dude, you are on point!
Had a late night like me.
Fedor did not seem in trouble in my eyes, Yes he was bleeding a lot, but he bleeds all the time, that is nothing to him. We really need him in the UFC before everyone will agree to his greatness. As he said at the end of the fight he waited for the weaknesses then he attacked them. He fights like a Russian chess player, and not many people beat them. Cant wait to see the maestro fight again

Long live the Heavy weight champ

I loved how he was taking some serious GnP (with a broken nose) and still almost pulled off a sub

I dont think he liked being up against the cage though

Rogers was a lot better than people gave him credit for.Fedor needs a bit more time getting use to the cage though. And mousassi vs sokogou was a fantastic fight.

I really cant agree with this, I don't feel he has anything to prove and I doubt he cares about the opinions of people who think MMA is only UFC.

I was less than impressed to be honest.

Fedor looked out of sorts to me. Perhaps getting married, alongside becoming increasingly religious has affected his training and concentration. Physically he never looks like he's been carved from stone, but last night he looked a little more pudgy than normal.

His cardio didn't seem to be great either, although maybe that was due to being unable to breathe properly due to his nose being all busted up.

I am a Fedor fanboy and at his best, he is the best. However, if he was facing Lesnar last night he would have lost IMO.

I can see Fedor losing in his next few fights. Depends on the quality of opposition I guess.

Rogers is well inside the top 10 heavyweights in my opinion. So Fedor was definitely facing tough opposition.

Looking at UFC heavyweights who will beat or be very challenging for Fedor

Cain Velasquez - Excellent Cardio, Relentless strong wrestler and solid chin

Nogeuira - Best all round fighter in the UFC, good hands and a top ground game plus an iron jaw

Brock Lesnar - Top wrestling and best ground and pound around. Very suspect chin, he looked stunned and hurt by a Mir 1-2 which had no real power on.

Carwin cant be included because he has only beaten Gonzaga and was badly hurt after 25seconds, he would be picked apart by Fedor.

Mir would get beaten bad by Fedor, his strikes arent great and can be taken down easily.

Couture has no chance, would be a copy of the Nog fight but Fedor would finish it.

Oveerem is best heavyweight striker in MMA IMO, think he has a decent chance to give Fedor a tough fight.

In the first round I was shocked at Rodgers, I think he did really well, but that punch Fedor hit him with would've stopped a train!

lol this is a joke surely? better gnp than couture and ortiz? he only knocked out mir on the ground and thats it.

anyway...

i thought fedor did alright, rogers only ended up on top because fedor went for a submission and he payed for that and still knocked him out. i think because of his hype, now everyone wants to see him never get hit and finish guys within a minute. he is still human you know!

and as said, that right hand was sick! picked his opportunity and took it..

Great fight, Brett Rogers is a very dangerous HW. I think Fedor's biggest test outside the UFC would be Overeem, hes big great striker and strong.

Fedor has already beaten Nog (who IMO is the best HW in the UFC) twice in his prime so he doesn't need to prove anything to me.

He also finished Couture with strikes on the ground too, his ground strikes are way better than Couture. He traps an arm, finds openings and rains the punches through without having to posture up.

I would rather have Couture or Ortiz hitting me with GnP than Lesnar anyday

Re:Strikeforce Fedor vs Rogers spoiler - 09 November 2009 16:38
imo if rogers cardio had been better i think he would have won

at the start off the second round he looked a bit gassed and dropped his hands down a bit

fair play to fedor for the win

i think lesnar is the man for the job, cardio machine and likes to press the action

Re:Strikeforce Fedor vs Rogers spoiler - 10 November 2009 00:51
I still don't really see why people (not necessarily on here) are so quick to crown Lesnar the number one.
He hit Herring with the best shot he's ever thown and Herring got back up immediately and didn't even seem to be in any trouble. He beat Herring by basically lying on him for the entire fight.  He beat an old Couture who'd been knocked silly by Chuck, twice, he lost to Mir (easily the most overated HW on the planet who was nowhere till he fought a completely inexperienced Lesnar and, by all accounts, an ill Nog) and then beat him - as had the likes of Ian Freeman and Marcio Cruz.  Hardly the record of someone who according to some is No 1 HW in the world.
Lesnar's physique is as impressive as Fedor's is unimpressive, and I'm sure this is why some have jumped on the bandwagon.  If you saw them both in the street, never in a million years would anyone pick Fedor to win (though there's a good argument some bodyfat and strong but not large muscles are what heavyweights should should aim for).  But honestly, Lesnar's fought no-one yet.  I was looking forward to the Carwin fight because his chin might have been tested against someone equally as strong, almost as good a wrestler, if records are to be believed, and who probably hits a lot harder. I have my doubts about Carwin's stamina, though he's yet to be tested, but again guys with physiques like Carwin's rarely manage to last five or even three rounds MMA.
Certainly Fedor's paper thin skin makes him extremely vulnerable, but then it always has, and of course he's beatable - I wonder how good his cardio is when he hasn't gone past two rounds in years, and with those small gloves you don't have to be a murderous puncher to get a KO over anyone. Plus he's a rookie to the cage. But then Fedor has spent his career fighting bigger, stronger guys so none of the UFC giants are going to worry him too much.
The problem at the moment is the UFC HWs, other than Nog, are all pretty much untested against real quality.  Certainly Velasquez, dos Santos, Carwin and Lesnar, not to mention other up and comers all have huge potential, but fact is they're all going to meet and there's a very good chance that one or two will be found out to be not quite as good as we thought.

Herring^ also went flying across the ring doing an involuntary backward roll when Lesnar connected.

I thought Fedor looked as sharp as ever. No doubt about it Rogers is a dangerous striker, yet raining down some hard looking shots Fedor barely looked fazed.

Rogers great natural strength stopped it being a very early Kimora submission, like most normal sized heavyeights would have succumbed to.

I can't see any heavyweights out there beating Fedor for some time yet. I think this fight played out very similarly to how a Fedor vs Lesnar fight would go and I'm a big Lesnar fan.

i dont think lesnar would be so happy to stay on the feet tho!
it may well end in the same fashion, but im sure we would see plenty of takedown attempts from lesnar.. that would be his only chance imo, but fedor's ground game is class too..
