3x8, 3x10, 3x12, 10,8,6,4,2. No. of reps 08 November 2009 20:45 (permalink)
Hi all, another noobie,
I have been to 3 gyms and found that each one had a predominant number of reps per set.
My current gym prefers a pyramid set. (I use maximum weight, on 10,8,6,4,2.)
At other the gyms it was 3x10 per excercise and 4x8.

Does anyone think that there is number of reps per set to beat all others?

I don't understand this, what do you mean each gym has a predominant number of reps per set??

I think when you are training for size rather than strength, you should use a mixture of reps. Have a six week routine of low reps like 4-6, then six weeks of 8-10. Variation is the key.

I think he means, all the people in the different gyms, use different rep ranges.
1st gym the majority do 3x10
2nd gym the majority do 4x8
3rd gym the majority do pyramids

        Welcome to MT Jim!

The amount of reps you do totally depends on what you want to achieve, if your looking for mainly strength gains go for the 4-6 rep range, if your looking for mainly mass gains go for 8-12 rep range IMO.

There is no golden set reps scheme.

You would expect to use them all at some point along the way.
