I'm stronger than I look - always had pretty decent base strength, and it responds quickly to training. I've never really looked particularly big though Can remember benching with one of the "big guys" years ago, he ran out of puff far before I did, even though I must have been giving away a good 6 stone, and god knows what on chest measurement

I know this has been done to death, but what are considered good lifts? I think I have seen: Bench = BW Squat = BW x 1.5 Deadlift = BW x 2 Or maybe the last 2 are the wrong way round. Are these considered good lifts, or average? Either way, I have a way to go to acheive any of them...

Good lifts would be 1.5x bodyweight bench, 2.5x full depth squat and 3x deadlift imo

As T said "x bw" is generally a poor way to compare lifts. Better just to see the persons weight compared to his lifts and make your own mind up. I voted for 'other'. In general terms I am no doubt stronger than I look. In strength athlete terms then no.

86kg...you skinny bastard Pete!!! I look like I can lift more then I actually can IMO...my bench press and deadlift are both poor...best lift is squat but I haven't done that in over a year so yeah I'm pretty rubbish at this lifting lark

Id say i look like i can lift more. But one thing ive got my head roud over the years is strength does not always mean bigger and better shape. Currently lifting bout 130k bench, 200 dead, 110 front squat all for reps at 14 stone 7 pounds. At my strongest and heaviest i was 17 plus stone, 220 deads, 150 bench, 130 front squat all for 3 sets of 6. BUT!!!! im in far far better shape than i ever was then. Im bigger and far leaner. So for me the amount of weight i can lift is not important. This is something i wish id of learned a long long time ago.

Irish Beast T0NY What do you bench and how much do you weigh? At the moment my BF levels are very very high. I am about 21 stone and can bench about 130, maybe a shade more. In fairness now I just look like a fat bloke with large arms and shoulders! in that case you arevery weak for how you look

I'd say 115kg deadlift is very below average fro a guy weighing over 14 stone

Don't you mean catcher not pitcher Drab? [;) 115kg deadlift - it's important to remember to compared trained with untrained. Most adult men would struggle to deadlift 115kg so i doubt the average is higher than that

Papa Lazarou I'm 16 stone and 10-14lbs (varies day to day), off cycle. I can bench 140kg for 10, 180kg at last attempt for 1. I however look like a more athletic type of guy rather than BBer! i would disagree with that having seen your pics you defo look like a body builder i probably look stronger than i am at 13 stone 10 at the min but my chest for example is developed pretty good and i can only bench about 115 x 2.

Hmm I think I'm stronger than I look. At 67.5kg I can bench 90kg max, although I use dumbbells now and do 32kgs for repts. I can deadlift 130kg and squat 100kg.

Having recently moved to a hardcore bodybuilding gym, i have realised for my size im not actualy that strong. Im 5ft 10, 17st 10ish and bench 120kg for around 6 reps. From what ive read on here, and as i say in the gym it doesnt seem that impressive for my size. But like i always say, i dont care about the numbers as im a bodybuilder not a strength athlete.

How tall are you papa? iirc your around 6ft which is prety tall for bodybuilding so that will make you look more athletic. From your avis ive seen uve got lots of muscle, but like u say some people dont have the bodybuilder shape. Having said that, natural bodybuilders dont look anything like assisted on stage. You may just have the more natural look.

I think so, Im generally perceived by others to be a very large chap. My weight is down to 114KG and Im benching 165, which whilst not amazing is a solid weight I think. That said at 124kG I was benching 185kg, but having lost the 10kg I look much better.

I've got 19" arms, was benching 145kg today with ease (150kg come Monday, 155kg come next Thursday...). My height plays against me, like you say IMO but i'm told the opposite by a lot of people, even other BBers. Can't see it myself.

much stronger than i look.... suppose a lot to do with genetics... i have always been explosive/strong and not looking huge. heaviest i have been is 15stone at 5'9 and was benchin 140kg for 6 (during cycle)... that was 6 months ago... injuries and operations = 2.5stone weight loss and now benching 110kg for 6 (long time of cycle)..... f**king depressing

depends where and who im training with. for the average joe im super strong. for bodybuilder type gym id say about average or below. gym i currently train is half boxing half those looking for mens fitness look. id say im top 5 in that gym. id say i look stronger than iam. 260kgs deadlift (ok)and only 120 kg bench and 140 squat which is pathetic.

I'm currently 92kg, deadlifting 225kg, squat 175kg, bench 122.5kg I'd say I'm above average for squat and deadlift, and about right for bench. Depends who you're comparing with though, average joe, bodybuilder or powerlifter. My gym is fitness oriented so people there are often surprised at what I can lift. I'm sure people wouldn't bat an eyelid at a hardcore gym though.
My log DL: 252.5kg SQ: 210kg BP: 145kg
