Do you look like you can lift what you do?
-
12 November 2009 12:09
Over the years on forums I have seen people's physiques and there claims about what they can lift. Originally I used to see people who I would deem as having pretty average physiques in terms of muscle mass who claimed very impressive lifts. At first I used to think it was BS but I have noticed more and more over the years. I look at my own physique in the mirror and some of the avatars on here and other BB sites. In a lot of cases I would say I am bigger than the person in question but they claim to be able to lift a lot more than me, I generally go on benching as its the one exercise I have done consistantly over the years. I know photos can be misleading etc and I appreciate some people might be bigger than they look in real life. I would say based on my size that my lifts are about right. I know size doesn't automatically mean strength but in general terms I would expect people with more muscle mass to be stronger. What are other peoples opinions on this? Would be interested to here from the Strongmen in particular.

T0NY What do you bench and how much do you weigh? At the moment my BF levels are very very high. I am about 21 stone and can bench about 130, maybe a shade more. In fairness now I just look like a fat bloke with large arms and shoulders!

I would recommend a cross trainer, hours steady state cardio three times a week and I lost a load of weight

Most of the guys I know are strongmen/PLs/Olympic lifters who lift in certain weight catergories. I'm sure if they posted some of their lifts on here they would be diss-belived.

No I know you didn't but I am fat by my own admission. I am not concerned about having low BF as my lifestyle would never allow it. However I could do with it being less than it is now. Might just keep bulking and see if I can hit 25. Then I might consider a diet! here is the gut in all its glory!! Now you know how I can hold so much booze!

To be honest I reckon if I sorted my lifestyle out the weighs would shoot up pretty quick. I might consider a cut in the New Year, until then its beer and kebabs as normal!

Depends on who's looking. I'm only 5ft 9 and weigh a bit under 20stone. Have always been big and bulky even when slimmer. Tend to be seen as a bit of a 'lump' At an MT meet though it would be a different kettle of fish entirely. You'd be seen through very different eyes from a very different perspective. I always get called upon for any heavy lifting/backup/presence - might sound silly to heavy trainers/doormen on here but that's how it is. Might have as much to do with a fairly no-nonsense attitude as it does with any perceived size.
Awesome pic, but Tony you're not doing yourself many favours posting up tips on preventing the gag reflex and then a picture of a guy touching his toes - Ak

I can still manage to haul my ass to the gym when ive been drinking the night before but the excess calories are the biggest problem. I'm 16 stone and 10-14lbs (varies day to day), off cycle. I can bench 140kg for 10, 180kg at last attempt for 1. I however look like a more athletic type of guy rather than BBer!

Theres well over 100 calories in a double vodka. So if you drink a lot of them it soon adds up

I weigh 14 and a half stone, I can do a couple of reps of 100kg on my own but because I'm 6'3, you'd never be able to tell by looking at me. I'll need to reach about 16 stone to look muscular
