Best Meal Replacements... - 12 November 2009 17:18
I'm just having a look around at the moment but just wondering which meal replacements people would say are the best for value for money.

Thanks

Myprotein or Allinone are really nice, and good value.

myprotein's works out at just under a pound a serving, and is really high quality, too.

i have only used the mint choc, if you haven't got much of a sweet tooth it can be a bit sickly at first, but after 3 or 4 its fine.
i havent tried the other flavours-i always go for mint choc, im not sure i like the sound of choc orange or vanilla, especially when the mint is fairly sweet.

Just buy some cheap oats and some flavoured/unflavoured protein add in some peanut butter maybe some seeds/nuts add a banana mix with milk or water then blend. You can play about with alsorts of ingredients.

Basically mate but your getting good slow release carbs from the oats, you can add creatine etc if you want. Its a lot cheaper and imo healthier plus you can put anything you want in there to taste.

well a protein shake its just that-a protein shake. you can add to that what you want, carbs, glutamine, etc.
a mrp, is a meal replacement-generally they will have a mix of qucik and slow digesting proteins (usually whey and casein) low gi carbs from a few different sources, efa's and vitamins/minerals.
so how drghulk think making your own is "healthier" i have no idea.
both have their place.

my point was that when hulk described a home made MRP AKs called it a "glorified protein shake" so i was just interested as to what exactly he thought was in a MRP to make it different to this "glorified protein shake"

Both have their place i agree.

I prefer home made as then you are in control of the exact ratios of the ingredients and can scale up or down accordingly or change the flavoring etc.

That and the price!

Re:Best Meal Replacements... - 13 November 2009 17:56
that is true, the only reasons i use mp's is because i like the macronutrient profile, its well priced, and its convenient to have lying around at home and work, or if im going smewhere and know i wont be able to eat for 2-3 hours. just put water in a shaker, pour in sachet, shake, jobs a good un.

To be fair i'd never actually looked at any MRPs until yesterday, i've only recently started to clamp down alot more on my diet but because i'm busier these days don't always have the time to fit as many meals in as possible.
I didn't know if you just ate them straight out of a packet or added them into a shaker and put water in so there we go, question answered :D lol

I suffer with severe panic attacks wich at sometimes means i feel my throat is closing so it restricts the amount i can physicaly eat so i use MRP alot. Will have to look at the myprotein ones as it cost a fortune for me..

THE WEST The reason and like i said IN MY OPINION home made mrp's are healthier is because i know exactly what i am putting in them ( there are no hidden ingredients) and i can make it even healthier adding various ingredients that are not in retail mrp's. Some cheap mrp's are just full of cheap sh*tty sugars amongst other things.

I do think there are some quality mrp's out there also there are some sh*t too. Not gonna mention Protoplex lol.

Myprotein are good.
