SIA and criminal record

Does anybody know the score with the SIA and having a criminal record?
 
Im not talking door work though but Close Protection.

There's a list somewhere. I think the higher 'grade' the less you're allowed to have. From memory the team leader type role was on a par with not paying for your TV licence type fine/crime.

Google the question and do the HO test.

Yeah ive just been on their site, theres a graph that isnt great tbh, from what I could make out, an offence that would result in less than a max possible sentance of 4 years would take 24 months befor ethey would "consider" an application from you.

I have emailed them to clarify the matter. Fingers crossed

Well you wont get a response from them as they are ****!! Pretty certain unless you have been done for assault or something more serious you will be ok DUI etc are all fine

All applicants must be able to satisfy the SIA applicant criteria before applying for a licence.  These licensing conditions include achieving the relevant qualification needed, satisfying mental health and criminal record criteria, being able to complete an application form and supply ID documents and demonstrate the right to work in UK.
Every application, including renewals, requires a current CRB disclosure.  The SIA website contains Assessment Tables and a Criminal Record Indicator that provide information explaining how an application with existing criminality may be received by the SIA.

So they will no doubt work on a case by case basis which makes sense. But it leaves me with a problem, I presume you have to do the relevant course to become qualified before applying to the SIA?

That leaves me in a situation, as the course im looking at is 2-3 grand. No way can I afford to do it and then not get cleared by the SIA, yet nobody there is going to give me a definate yes/no.

Thats bl00dy expensive mate. Ive known people do courses for MUCH less than that (ie, knock a nought off)

i think hes talking about close security course.  which is normally fewdays intensive. going rate is a couple of grand+!!

why dont you do the door supervisor course which you can get for 150, apply for that through the sia if you get that then you can get any sia licence im sure!

The point odog was making is that if you can get a door supervisors license with whatever convictions he has then he will more than likely be able to get a cp license.

To the op, unless you have someone offering you a cp job then I wouldn't bother.

My form just asked have you been convicted of a criminal offence in the past year?

I know a guy who has a firearms conviction amongst other things. it took him 3 attempts, but he got his SIA door badge in the end.

Not actual security work, but manning the operations rooms. Job title would be "watchkeeper".
 
Tbh though, Id do anything given the chance, I left the army craving what i thought would be an amazing "normal life" butits anything but! So boring and monotonous after military life.
 
Have recieved a few replies from him, will update when I have a definitive path to follow.
