Arcade is an xbox with just a 256mb memory card.  No hard drive.  Still can be connected to web.

Ah right. Ta.

Might try and pick one up. Not that big on online games, generally cos I get hammered at pretty much every online game I play.

Should be able to pick one up pretty cheap

not meaning to high jack your thread mate, but can 360s without hdmi output sockets still output 1080p? or can it just do 720p with the hd scart lead? cheers.

Umm if  you use compnent you should get 720p, actually both the 360 and the PS3 cannot output games at 1080p anyways, they can only upscale to this.

HD Scart lead? I had no idea such a thing existed. I would vbe very dubious of its HD claims

Yes they can, via VGA.  Not via component as component high def at 1080p  is not allowed under the HD DVD rules.

Me too. I thought only a HDMI cable could output HD? If VGA and component can do it then whats the point in HDMI?

I think Pap has missed what he was trying ot say cause that confused me too lol.

Does yoru Tv have component connections in (Red/ Gree/ Blue) sockets anwhere?

If so you can get the component connections, connect it that way and it will send the better signal, as said, the 360 can only really output at 720p anyways.

And HDMI was made to be an industry standard, tho they still fcuked that up abit thanks to Sony trying to be dicks, as usual, basically it can carry LOTS more info in terms of picture and sound. Cheaper to manufacture and place in all teh devices that woul duse them, and if you look at the connection its very very small really for all that it can do.

yes, and on a side note - all Xbox's can access Xbox Live, you are not restricted by what model you have, arcade / core / pro / elite etc..

Xbox Live is a service that your Xbox connects to - whether you have a 0GB HDD, or a 120GB hdd, it will still work, it is connected via ethernet cable, or wireless connection

Memory / storage / hdd capacity or space is not an issue

Erm, I'll call you on that one. Component 1080p for games that are coded to run native at 1080p is fine. This was sorted with a firmware change ages ago IIRC. Also any 1080p files you have will play at that.

It's the only reason that I was happy to buy the old arcade unit that didn't have an HDMI output.

AV forums backs up (quickest FAQ I could find):

Component:

* HD DVD - 1080i resolution maximum, limited by AACS
* DVD - Standard progressive 576p maximum, limited by CSS
* Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p and native 1080p games

http://www.avforums.com...-a.html#postmenu_1889577

As for original question, I'd buy new, they cost frig all at the minute.

ok...and to go back to the original question i'd go new aswell there are some good deals knocking about!
So basically because my 360 has no hdmi socket would it be best to just go for a 720p tv and use the red/green/blue components? thanks.

As per my post 360's DO output 1080p over component. Both for games that have 1080p in them, and also for any media that you have in 1080p format.

This is how mine is set up and it works a treat. If you want a TV over 37 inches, and you're not sat miles away, go for 1080p. Smaller set, limited point unless you've got it on your lap.

Yes, use component.

I've only got a 20gig HD in mine and it sucks. I'd far rather have the extra space of the 120 - dump as many games as you can on there and you get shot of nasty drive noise, and vastly reduce load times. The HDDs aren't cheap, and I wouldn't touch one off ebay in a month of sundays as there's a ood chance it's banned.

Keep an eye out on ebay for someone selling and MC2 set like this - http://shop.ebay.co.uk/...sacat=See-All-Categories - the wheel is average, but you get a proper wireless pad and a decent remote with it.

I just sold my wheel on after buying the set, net cost for controller & remote £8

Much better to but a new 360, especially since all new Elites seem to be coming with the Jasper chipset in.
The only reason I had not bought one earlier was down to the overheating problem, but Jasper now seems to be the cure.  Just upgraded from an original xbox to a new 360 Elite, got it from play.com with 4 games for £230.

You are in the future. Things are very "shiny" here.

Re:Buy a new xbox or second hand? - 16 November 2009 19:47
The Jasper chipset is the name of the CPU/GPU chipset in the new versions of the 360.
You can tell what chipset is in your 360 by looking at the label next to the power socket. On the label it says 12V DC followed by a current rating.
The 1st 360`s had a current rating of I think 16.2 A, this chipset was the Xenon.
The 2nd generation had a current rating of around 14.2 A, this chipset was the Falcon.
The 3rd and current generation has a rating of 12.1 A, and this is the Jasper chipset.
The new chips don`t draw as much power and therefore do not get as hot as previous models.
Therefore the power brick has a lower output so new power bricks will not power older 360`s.
This is the cure for RROD.

Yes it can do it, but no big game will be released this way with DVD9 Discs for the 360 (not eneough space, they tried this little ploy with Hal3 and it got slammed, then it was all leaked out about how they where doing it., no game will be released with 1080p native, all the games will be 720p, with the 360 trying to upscale.

Sorry jsut to add, to this day these are the only natie 1080p games.

Wolf of the Battlefield Commando 3 [Xbox Live Arcade]
Feeding Frenzy 2 [Xbox Live Arcade]
Portal [Xbox Live Arcade]
Boogie Bunnies [Xbox Live Arcade]
Street Home Court
 Virtual Tennis 3

Two of them only being actual shop relases.

Honeslty, you have to be anally retentive to spot the difference on a good setup, and you better have a 42"+ screen plus at the right distence, otherwise this is all a waste of time lol.

Hmmmmmmmm, will have to look more into this. As it stands it says 1080p on the back of boxes, if it's not rendered at that then they surely must fall fowl of trade description

I don't know much about X-box's but WRT the question "New or Used" I's say NEW
Firstly there is the warranty aspect  ,  and secondly I have heard loads of people say things like "Yeah , I sold my Xbox and bought a new one because it started doing this and that....."
