Fit as possible - 16 November 2009 15:32
Alright

  Need a little advice here.

Currently running 2 times per week outside to get away from spending all my time in the gym

My question is this, in your opinion what is the best method for getting as fit as possible inside the gym
for football/sports related?

I'm talking building a serious amount of endurance/stamina etc

I normally mix it up with a bit of long distance and HIT trainer and this seems to be doing ok

Just woundering, should I be looking at the amount of distance I can run or?

cheers

sport related fitness can mean all sorts, football related you would also want to concentrate on short sprints and your movement side to side, reversing, turning etc.

Remember 'fitness' is not just being able to run a long way and football isn't one long run but rather a series of short sprints, turns and lateral movements with jogging and walking in between.

Componenets of fitness
Cardio endurance
Muscular endurance
co-ordination
power
strength
flexibility

etc etc etc

A mixture of bodyweight drills ((lateral lunges, press ups pull ups etc) plyometric drills, short sprints, interval runs, skills drills (using cones etc) and a little weight training.
