Brilliant timing - was planning a cut in the new year. Mrs. DC77 is due in May with baby no. 2 so this is my big chance to get in shape before the sleepless nights and dirty nappies!

Walnaldinho I contemplated it. Then I saw a few of the names getting involved and thought better of it. why? the competition is all in good spirits, and everyone else entering and seeing there progress acts as motivation for others...least it does for me. and hey, I came last in the first 2 shape-ups.....2nd in the last one. you never know how you'll do till you try

Walnaldinho I contemplated it. Then I saw a few of the names getting involved and thought better of it. As AWG says, it is about the motivation to keep to your diet and training for 12 weeks as much as winning the prize. I think the standard has increased each time and this is a positive thing!

Assisted and non Assisted. I guess Assisted tend (not a hard and fast rule) to be more experienced and I guess that may be what puts people off. Being Assisted also generally means you can cut harder with less muscle being lost as well and bulk less cleanly and put less fat on. Ergo, people are seeing and uneven playing field and being put off.

I understand your point in that some members may think that people who are assisted may have a better end result. Trying to keep the emphasis on the best progress, rather than just who has the best physique. Monitoring who is assisted and the parameters of with what, is a minefield. Do prohormones and fat burners count the same as other drugs, for example? There are more sub-categories I could list, also I'm happy to take everybody's word for it but some may not. Would then male and female members be in different groups?(although currently there is only Welshy) So having two groups unassisted and assisted would still be unfair. Maybe consider having a vote for the best progress and overall best physique? Still want to keep this as a fun thing and not too serious

I would simply divide it between assisted (eg anything that is outlawed by the IOC) and natural. I'm easy tho - I know I won't retain my crown as i'm bulking and bulking always looks less impressive than the cut so its by the by for me

But, the problem with the IOC banned list is that they ban certain fat burners, and I bet a number have used products containing synephrine without knowing it in the past 2 years. If we have a line, it needs to be drawn, and this is a minefield IMO. Or should we simply say no prohormones / AS / banned fat burners for the duration of the Shape-Up? Would the prohormone users feel disadvantaged? Are people happy to take people's word for it too?

I wouldn't ban assistance, simply seperate it into Assisted (prohormones / AS / banned fat burners etc) and none Assisted (eg just whey, creatine etc). In reality of if anyone inadvertently using an outlawed med (eg synephrine) in a cold med, they wouldn't be using it delibrately and for a significant period of time, unlike some real world competitors who make their money off the sport. I for one will be using AAS and some peptides from start of Feb next year and a ban on AAS would outlaw me

I thinks its best to just have one group and like the previous shape ups just state assisted and list the things your using. Like Hazel said it's only abit of fun and motivation for peoples training.
The streets are still, the final struggle's ended;Flushed with the fight we proudly hail the dawn!See, over all the streets the fascist banners waving,Triumphant standards of our race reborn!

Doesn't everyone say whether they were assisted or not anyway? People can then judge for themselves how impressive the results were. Given people cheat in natural competitions, and that I've read people on here say that they would, I don't think that it would make 1 jot of difference anyway!!

I dont think some people would appreciate the natural people peoples progress more and just look at it as an overall vote without really caring what they used.

Personally i don't think at this level it's worth worrying about separating groups off - this is a fair forum and the members on the whole are pretty decent people.
Awesome pic, but Tony you're not doing yourself many favours posting up tips on preventing the gag reflex and then a picture of a guy touching his toes - Ak

Some people who voted for me the other year did state that they had opted for me over other members who were assisted at the time. I personally think disclosing any AAS or OPED use is relevant as the bloody things work after all and therefore should effect how progress is judged. If I do the comp I may well be assisted myself so I'm not being bitter about assisted competitors.

I quite like the idea of people who use having to disclose it and leaving it at that. We have to consider the prize too. But, it's not my call, just adding my 2p. I'm deligating the running of this entirely to Hazel!!

I'm definitely up for this. Starting my cut on the 4th jan anyway so fits in perfectly. I personally would just keep things as they are and would hope that all assisted folk disclose the fact. We don't want to overcomplicate what is essentially just a bit of fun and motivation to loose the xmas chub.

Agree with what's been said about "assisted/un-assisted" Personally I'd say if it's allowed in natural comps then they can be classed as un-assisted

I might change my mind as I'll be cutting anyway - it's just the posting pictures of myself looking like soggy packet of trex that I'm less impressed with. However - at this BF% progress is so much more visible and easier to achieve. ...and I can do that pushy outy belly thing favoured by many a shape up contestant
