Muscletalk Reporter @ the 2011 UKBFF British Championships - 28 December 2009 12:32
For 2 years now I have competed as a natural bodybuilder. I have had a journal in the competition section for sometime now. Its been great for help, pointers and support during tuff comp preperation.  However now I am taking a year off competing. Still only 22 so alot of time to grow and I will be entering into the mens weight devisions. For me making up numbers in a competition isnt what I want. In 2011 I aim to come back looking bigger and better.

This year I succeed in achieving my first win. In June of this year I won the Scottish under23 title. Probably one of the single best feelings I have ever felt. Then I went on to compete at the British championships. Leading upto the show I was a little behind but I knuckled down at my condition came in nicely. I really believed that I could achieve at least a top 3 and maybe a top2. However it wasnt to be. My condition at got worse over night and I possibly think I over carbed. I placed a respectible fourth. This has left me wanting more. With much deliberation I have decided to take the year off and compete in 2011.

This is the change I have gone through over the past two years:

         2008                            2008                             2009

Over the next days, weeks and months I will be updating my progress. I will later include my diet and outline my training for the next few weeks. This is going to be an important year for my development towards my goals.  For christmas Santa also got me a Mino Ultra HD camcorder so I will be posting videos alongside pics. I look forward to hearing comments, opinions and advices during my off season.

Thanks for reading. Wish me luck.

Trained Hamstrings and Calves today. Had a friend along as well so ideal oppurtunity to try out the new xmas toy. Posted below is the session today. Didnt include warmup sets or the initial 10minutes on the tredmill. Also missed out the last calve excercise which was seated on the smith machine.

Back to the gym today. Had a bit of a night out on monday. Pretty savage so rested up yesterday feeling sorry for myself. Trained Delts and Biceps with a little abs today. Good session. Found drinking a carb drink like lucozade sport caffine boost helps with getting a really good pump. I swell up like a ballon, love it lol. Conditions good, still vascular in the forearms and a little stil across my front delts. One guy at the gym said, "holy cow your traps make you look like a bull" lol. Maybe over exaggerated but they've grown well over the past few weeks.

Really enjoyed the session today but looking forward to more next year.

Delts and Biceps:

DB shoulder press
EZ-Bar Cable Front Raises
DB Lateral Raises
Cable single arm lateral raises

Dumbell Standing curls
Barbell Curls
Modified Cable Rope Hammer Curls

Re:Mass Attack 2010 - My Journey - 31 December 2009 16:13
Last post of 2009. Thinking about what to write today I think summing up would be a good idea.

Well what can I say. Its been a really good year for me, not just in bodybuilding but also everything else. Finished an old job, started a new one and then decided to change careers. Sounds strange saying that at the tender age of 22 so maybe direction is a better word. Competed again this year earned my first win and then placed 4th at the Brits. Even with the disappointment of the brits I would say that was a successful year for anyone.

Looking ahead I'm really excited. I'm not competing but I will be helping a couple of others to compete at the Scottish. One in the teens and the other in the juniors. Really looking forward to helping them and making them realise what I go through at contest. Apart from that good luck to everyone in 2010.

Here's my workout for today - Chest and Tri's:

Smith Flat Bench
Dumbell Incline Press
Barbell Incline Press
Cable Fly's

Tricep Cable Pushdowns
Overhead DB Press
Trips Bodyweight Blasters

Legs shot to pieces. What a way to start the year with a hardcore leg session. Start as you mean to go on. Sweating the tales of new years eve out of me and the monster dinner yesterday at the folks. Had a good day yesterday. Went to my mum and dads for a late lunch/dinner. Rib roast was waiting on our arrival. Cant beat mums home cooking with dads famous roast tatties (potatoes for those of english decent lol).

Good to be back in the gym. Still have a lingering cold of some kind. Abit strange tbh. Back to work tomorrow with an early start but glad to get back into a routine after a 3 and half week holiday lol.

Quads and Calves:

Squats
Leg Extension
Smith Machine Front Squats
Walking DB Lunges

Standing Calve Raise giant set
Leg Press Toe Raises (soleus focus)

TBH not too bothered. Had BF measured over the last month through capilers and biopedance (think thats how you spell it) and both came up with the same measurement. I'm 86kg at 11% so still reletively lean considering I've gained nearly 12kg since the brits.v

Probably want to keep it reasonably low BF however last year bulked to 92kg with a highish 18% BF and look at the differance that made this year. So maybe some advice on what you think?

Why dont you put up what weight you are using? Makes it more enjoyable to read and people can see your progress.

Day off work today so niceish relaxing morning. Had a photoshoot at the gym with a local photographer. She was looking for a 'fly on the wall' camera documentary on bodybuilding. We've got another session next week so really looking forward to seeing the end result.

Anyways back to work tomorrow. Couple PT's, looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

'An afa fine day' as they would say in this part of the world. Loads of snow and really cold. Makes for an interesting walk to the gym. Bloody council.

Anyhoo worked at 11am this morning so a later training time than usual. Good day. Loads of Health MOT which was great. Really enjoying them, meeting loads of different people for all sorts of backgrounds.

Trained Legs. Really didnt feel it today. Maybe lowish carbs might of been the reason but just couldnt get into it. Managed to complete but just not my usual.

Trained Quads and Calves:

Warm Up Tredmill 8minutes

Squats                        60kg x 10 x 2 (warm up, deep squats, over parallel)
                                   100kg x 10 (over parallel)
                                   130kg x 8 (over parallel)
                                   140kg x 5 (over parallel)

Leg Extension             30kg x 15 x 4

Horizontal Leg Press   98kg x 10
                                   115kg x 10
                                   122kg x 8 x 2

Walking Lunges          22kg x 10each leg x 2

Standing Calve Raises 79kg (21s) 7 7 7 (feet facing out then level then in)
                                    x3

Stretching is really helping with the full range of movement on the squats. Really liking the improvement thats made.

Hi Mate,

Nice tidy looking workouts.....lean bulking is always the way!

Can you tell me what the different weight classes are in natural bodybuilding? As just thinking of mayb doing one in the future

Cheers Nick. I compete with the BNBF. If I'm right the classes are Teen (under 20), Junior (under 23), lightweight (under 72kg), Middle Weights (under 78kg, Heavy weights (over 78kg).

Unsure about the NPA I think there a couple kg lighter than the BNBF.

Working yesterday until about 3pm so after that fitted in a session. Pretty **** tbh. Pretty lethargic not really focused, nothing. Usually I like a train walking round the gym. Loads of sweat blood and tears but NOTHING. Really annoyed so I've heeded the great mans advice (James) and taking a week off. Havent had one since the brits which was back in october so think I need it. Back to it next agin week.

Trained Back:

Chin Ups - 5 5 5 (warming up, slow ecentric)
V-Bar Pulldown - 54kg x 12 (warm up)
                           77kg x 12
                           84kg x 9
                           91kg x 6 x 2

T-Bar Rows (old school) - 3 plates x 12 (warm up)
                                         4 plates x 12
                                         5 plates x 8 x 3

One Arm DB Row - 50kg x 10 x 4

Lat Pulldown - 70kg x 12 x 4

Off today. Went shopping and stocked the fridge up. Pretty hefting shopping trip to asda havent done it for a while. Anyhoo back to work tomorrow with a good week off.
