The alternate reality is making more and more sense now. My theory. The things Flocke is promising people are being materialised in that reality, almost I cannot give you a second chance in this life, but if you follow me I can give you redemption / happiness in another time. Most of them would be open to this given their time / reality travelling experiences already and who knows maybe he shows them proof. - Dogun still has his son
- Jack is able to give to his son what his dad never gave to him
- Hurleys lottery win has given him the ability to do good and be happy
- Locke has someone who accepts him for who he is, he doesnt have to be special
- Syaid has redemption of sorts, Nadia is alive also
- Claire has her baby
- Kate has her freedom
What he is offering to those on the Island who have nothing left to go back to or live for, is a chance at happiness, even though its in another life. Though we have yet to see someone refuse his advances there are still Hurley, the Kwons and Jack left to be swayed who could be candidates.

walkie I am not religious, and obvisouly we can't go too much into it (well not obvious, I actually don't understand why, it's no different to debating anything else) God and The Devil, apparently are the only two people that can bring dead people back alive (they share the same powers) or Jacob and his brother in Lost. I think after the miraculous incarnation of Siad the temple people had to determine whether he was incarnated by Jacob or his brother, which is why they did the test. One of the test's being the hot rod that they pressed into his side. Now the Devil lives in burning hell with his hot pitch fork, I believe from their test they would be able to determine who brought him back to life - Jacob or his brother. Notice that we didn't see the bloody wound left by the hot rod? It probably didn't leave one. I think Siad is Siad for the moment, but instead of being Jacobs child (Gods child) he is Brothers child (Devils child) Perhaps the island is or was the beginning of mankind, maybe even the garden of edan. This is all in my opinion of course, and knowing Lost so well now I'll probably be proved totally wrong tonight lol I agreed completely when i read this, and last nights episode confirms you're theory

I dont believe its god and the devil for many reasons. "Gods" perhaps though, especially given the MIBs "I know what its like to have a crazy mother" speech to Kate. That had me thinking about mythology and the statue. That said Im still firmly behind my theory of ying and yang. What I found interesting was that Jacob could or would not absolve Richard of his sins, he thought about giving him his wife back but on the issue of absolving him he was sure he couldnt or did not have the authority to do so. Yet he had no qualms of making him immortal to serve his purpose of the mediator. There has also been a lot of discussion over the years on the ending of lost, many people said it was purgatory (heaven and hell ties in) I believe the last episode was the writers dispelling this. Almost having MIB mock Hell and play on it after he flashed Richards mind as if he were exploiting a simpleton and his belief system. Jacob was also quick to add in other perceptions of the MIB saying hes also known as Evil, Gary Glitter etc I think my denial of a lot of the reglious references though is me not wanting to believe thats the way they will take it, after a strict catholic upbringing im completely agnostic now. Did anyone see a similarity between Jacob semi drowning Richard and a baptismal ceremony? Also Cereberus (reference has been made a few times) is the dog that keeps bad spirits and indeed the lucifier from leaving the gates of Hades. The bottle (Island), the cork (Cereberus, jacob), The wine (MIB, Lucifer?).

I think the references to religion may be a slight red herring. They are hinting to us about god/devil, hell/purgatory etc. It's something similar to that but not christian bible stuff, that's for sure. You're agnostic but there's obviously something "supernatural" about the island, MIB, Jacob. Maybe rebel angels/demons, exiled and playing gods without actually being gods.

No spoilers as such but they have basically "explained" the island. Disappointment is not even the word, and the origins of Richard and MIB? ergh. Spoilers.......... A ****ing cave containing the life source of the Island and probably the world is what they are guarding? The mother whispering incantations over a glass of something to make Jacob the official guardian? Jacobs 'mother' warning of a fate worse than death, then him slamming his brother down there and thats how he became the smoke? The whole story line with the "mother" of the island stealing the two boys climaxing in MIB killing her and the love issues surrounding it just felt massively disjointed. bah

I feel what your saying mate. The show has destroyed my social life as well. Everyone thinks I have a serious Lost problem. Try telling these Wanks John Lock dont Stop. Wasn't expecting anything intelligent To Be Fair Mate. I knew it was going to be a lot of balls. Thought the Episode was great because it finally explained something to us simpletons. Wat did anyone else think ?

Life source in the cave, what does that mean exactly? without it the world will stop reproducting? why did it turn MIB into smoke? who was the mother suppose to represent, some sort of guardian angel or summin or just a nutty bird?!

Apparently the last double-episode is being shown Sunday here in the UK to stop spoilers from the US. Doesn't bother me as I D/L it anyway! Haven't watched this week's ep yet, but some bloke at work told me it was awesome.

same terry, on other forums everyone is going on about how perfect etc it was. i really dont see it. all that effort to overcomplicate the plot and surround the whole island in mystery to the cop-out at the end with some romanticised, dramatic ending? not good enough

Just watched the final two and i guessed it was about some sort of "purgatory" in season two. Yeah, i was right, but i didn't want to be! And where the hell did Micheal and Walt fit in. Has said to be a special child and i always thought he would turn up in the end. They weren't even in the church???? Good that Ben didn't get into heaven though. But then Siad did many bad things. Just cos he done some bad things doesn't mean they make up for it.

It wasn't about getting into heaven.

All of the island stuff was real. Christian said this right near the end. The flash sideways was a collective of the survivor's wants/ needs(to my understanding), "you all created this place so you could meet up", or something similar that he said. Jack never had a son in real life, but had an ideal of being a good father, unlike his dad was to him. He also imagined his dad as being a better role model than the "real" Christian, I think. All of the people in the flash sideways were dead, or will die soon, so no Walt there. No idea why he hasn't been around in a while. The idea of the flash sideways was that they had to "let go" from everything restraining them, or causing them hurt in some way(possibly linked to Buddhism?).

Was confused as to what was real and what wasn't (sure im not the only one). That makes sense. End of it all...fav character was Ben Linus. Amazing actor.

lilbigman All of the island stuff was real. The idea of the flash sideways was that they had to "let go" from everything restraining them, or causing them hurt in some way(possibly linked to Buddhism?). you think walt outlived aaron?
Current goals: get back in the game
