I'd take dicodeine if I could source it for the euphoria and sleep!

But thats not really what you're asking is it?!

I contemplated taking ibruprofen long-term regularly so I could run/play football more often but decided against it.

Tramadol is poor stuff IMO mate, would stay clear of it as much as possible. I've taken a few strong and a few weak opiods and tramadol is my least favourite of them all. It makes me feel rough

Would either ask your doc to prescribe you something different, or source something different if needed

This is probably something you already know, but stay away from too many oral NSAIDs. Number one cause of stomach ulcers

stay away from the tramadol, i had dependence problems with both that and co-codamol. long term painkiller use is not good and should be avoided if possible

Steer clear mate its an Opiate and HIGHLY addictive, remember i made a post about that girl who was a good friend? She lost 7 years of her life to the stuff as she was always wasted and rarely left the house?! The good news is she's doing well coming off it and has recently reduced her dose massively! Took a bloody while to help her take the step but she's now on the road to a normal life!

LOL!!!

I was first poisoned after being given NSAIDs - try to stay away from those, as already mentioned!  Wish I could've sued my pediatrician, stupid cow!

After seeing a good Jewish doctor I was put on Codeine to manage pain but when I came over here my GP decided to give me tramadol instead.  Tramadol is absolutely hideous, felt awful and was crap for my pain.

Of course, after my doctor realised his mistake...... he was happy to give me large amounts of codeine LOL.  Unfortunately I had to take highish doses of codeine, and for my bodyweight it made me look like a heroin addict, be really absent minded and always felt sick.  But it took the pain away so stuck with it.  Luckily those days are over and only ever need to take the odd paracetemol so am content with that.

Doctor was hesitant at first to give me the required dose because he thought I was like most people and would get addicted.  I'm a bit of an exception to that rule (I should be studied lol), so keep that in mind!

And no, I wasn't worried about long-term use, mainly because I didn't have to worry about the 'getting addicted' part!  I just thought it was an inconvenience so was very grateful to stop!

I've taken Tramadol,Co-codamol,diazapam and diclofenec for back pain over the years.Diclofenec I find quite mild but the rest of them should be used with caution.Diazapam makes you feel totally stoned and is supposedly highly addictive. The doctor has onlt given me enough for a few days at a time of these.Tramadol is a good pain killer I found but it can make you feel really weird.I only used to take 2 a night to help the pain when I slept.Made me feel a bit semi -hungover when I woke up.Co-codamol I found to be the best of them.Takes the edge of the pain and does mong you out quite nicely before you go to bed.None of them should be used for long periods though if can be avoided. The danger becomes when you start taking them even when there's no pain.I found that myself on occassion I must admit.

Agreed,  if I take enough tramadol to deal with pain then I end up feeling a bit junky-ish.

Take coedine probably once or twice a week.

Am on repeat prescription of Naproxen but usually just take Ibuprofen instead as it works out cheaper.  Take this day in day out.

When I fractured my back I was on solpadol 30mg codiene/500mg paracetamol (2, 4x a day), tramadol (1, 3x a day) and naproxen (1, 2x a day) for about 2 months in total.
I got quite bad on it and lied to the docs that I had lost a pack of tramadol once, and bought it off the net as well as I was popping up to 8 in a day at times. I would feel physically sick and have heart palpitations (sp) and cold sweats, it also tied in with my depression and let me in not too pretty a state.
I would love to get back to that way of life again, however sense dicates that I shouldn't.
So I would also recommend that nobody else goes down this route.
The constipation was probably the worst, I would have stomach cramps from help and be doubled over on the toilet.
