I wrote a far more ironic version of your (FKaOG)  comment yesterday, but refrained from posting as it might be deemed too inflammatory...

I'm a bit too thick to incorporate subtle irony in a post Doc.

does high repping at a certain weight correlate to a max? For example this site saids that if you do 225 for 15 your max rep is 332 so does that mean if you do 30 reps at 225 you have a 664? Then so on? I did 225 for 9 at a bodyweight of 175lbs (gained 5lbs though recently so 180lbs) and the chart was pretty consisent with my repping I did 295lbs. Just wondering what you guys think about high repping correlating with 1 rep max. Oh, here is the website: http://www.joeskopec.com/repmax.html

I doubt if it does Jock but its an interesting hypothesis.

go to place with bench and weights

load up 100kg or 220lbs of weight, lay on bench, make the weight touch chest, and lockout, and see how many repetitions  you can get

make the weight touch chest, and lockout

I.e. stricter than multi-ply lifting...

That's pretty much it at the moment. Mind you I did a set of 8 today on the blocks pulls. Only the one, then I needed oxygen.

About as much as a 40yard dash correlates to an 800m run.

I mean if your doing 180kgx30 then you 1RM is gona be good, but that's about all you can infer really.

At the end of the day why do you need a chart when you can easly got out and find you max!

I have to do the 100kg max rep test for American Football.  I currently do 17 reps.  Got friends you beat the hell out of me on it.

I think the record for the NFL combine is over 40 reps.  No bouncing etc allowed.

For those who have high 1RM's its more a case of time endurance than strength in any real sense. Most good pressers will get around the same with 100kg as 90kg or 110kg as their strength wont really be a major factor in their fatigue.

Who gives a **** how many reps you can do anyways? Its 1RM's that count ;)

I'm off from uni at the minute so have no training partner but will get a video up asap! Won't be anything out of the ordinary though i imagine! Never went beyond 8-10 for reps but can manage 100kg no probs at all.

And on the topic of nfl combine, some of the videos ive seen of the 220lb bench press are def of the bouncing variety. Just my opinion.

honest
for the record, I think my best effort was 11 or 12, though that was a while ago.

I tried this once last year cos a guy i know said if i could rep 100kg for 15 then i'd get one with 3 plates...

So i diligently went in every week and after a few months got 15 reps with 2 plates...next week i put the 3 plates on and couldn't get a rep lol..

Damn i was frustrated!!! i think a lot depends on ur form and i was clearly bouncing the bar off my chest so not really training the muscle properly.

i tried this other day before i'd even read this thread which is kinda weird

i got 17 reps with the last 1 assisted by training partner

my bro is 22 and is ridiculously strong on free bench press

he's currently at 210kg x1
                          200kg x 2
                          180kg x 6

so it will be interesting to see what he gets    i know he WARMS up on 100kg but literally stops after a few reps  im very sure he can get 40+ reps

i remember him saying not so long ago that last couple of yeard 60kg/100kg    1 plate/2 plates a side feels simliar!  :O

it feels alot bloody differnet to me   lol!!

i have a couple of videos of him doing 200kg/2 reps and 180kg/reps if someone knows how i can upload them from my phone??

i'll try get one of him doing the 100kg challenge to as no one ever believes what he can lift

he tried today after a back session and got 36 reps

reckons fresh on a chest day could hit 40  reps

says he felt comfortable till 30 ish then lactic acid build up and arms went dead

his words were if he trained for more reps rather than max lifts etc he'd get 50 reps by march.......

I had a go today after my equipped bench training.

I got a measly 100x8 then died on the 9th. Tris too fryed from the equipped work but there ya go!

Same here - in terms of performance, at least. I was fresh - i.e. main set for the session. All reps paused briefly, but probably not long enough to pass in competition. First session after flu, but I doubt that I would have achieved much more even without prior ailment. Feeble... I think that I got this many reps (albeit t-n-g) with 120kg the first session after a comp. in 1997... But onwards and upwards, eh?
BTW: I do have a vid of this awesome performance, but I ain't posting it because:
1) Anonymity is a sine qua non for my online dealings;
2) Would anybody really want or need to see proof of a 90kg male claiming a spectacular 100 x 8 bench???

Good effort. Being able to rep with 100kg is a bit of a landmark lift. Base camp set up, onwards!

Anothe effort on tuesday;

100x11

Still not close to what I think I could do at my best. The high rep stuff is a killer get to 8 no probs then crash and burn reall quick!

Excuses this time where; done after deadlift training and 2 days after heavy equipped bench training lol

I had a try on Saturday and got 18. I got to 16 and thought 20 was within range. Turns out that it wasn't, and rep 17 was hard work and 18 was a total grinder.
Ah right, basically then you're a fcuking cripple who can only lie down on a bench for sports nowadays?

I'm at 16, but actually am training for a football combine where they test the 225, so im finding this thread very interesting. Anyone care to share how they are training for this? Any deviation from normal bench training?

I am not sure anyone is actually training for it? I know I am, just throwing in the odd rep set when I can. As a powerlifter I rarely do any serious work above 5 reps. It's interesting to try and rep something out to failure lol

If I was training do do resps with 225 I'd simply combine training to get stronger benching with higher rep work for conditioning.

I'm game for that. But would entries only be accepted with video evidence?

I got 100 x 6 before Xmas. Then came the turkey dinners, boxes of quality street and can just about push out 3 again after 3weeks back training! Gutting.

If James et al wanted to spend time doing it, they would not need video evidence. The powerlifting totals don't. It's only a bit off fun. Gona try and vidoe my next attempt on thurs.

half the fun is the videos! it does not matter how meny reps you do! every body starts some where. there is nothing better then seeing the last rep; pass or fail being struggled up!
besides we all have a friend who could do a hundred reps.
