Sorry bigfella, another stupid question. Is it ok to eat uncooked oatmeal ? Haven't tried it before so it seem like a good question to ask as the recipe calls for uncooked oatmeal.

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. That recipe caught my attention. It sounds really good, but I was wondering if you had calculated the nutritional value of the bars. It appears to me that there won't be enough protein to make up for the 16 tablespoons of peanut butter that make 1 cup of peanut butter. Thats 128g of fat in the recipe. How much protein is there?

RE: Protein Bars...recipe - 19 September 2001 20:00
Hi Natural, they break down :- protein 20g, carbs 30g and fat 20g of which only 3g are saturated. Those figures are per bar, don't forget your 128g fat divides into 10 to 12 bars and most of the fat in pb is healthy fat which the body uses similar to carbs. The ammounts may vary slightly depending on recipe adjustments, but like trident said if you price up the alternative they are worth the 10 to 15 mins to make. Enjoy your eating bro's..........later.

hi NaturalBP - welcome buddy!

Bigfella - sorry to correct you on a fact (dont wish to patronise!), healthy fats - polys and monos are NOT treated in the same way as carbs - the only fat which is is synthetic MCTs.

Hope you dont mind me pointing this out.

So theyre about 380kcal per bar?

RE: Protein Bars...recipe - 20 September 2001 15:25
I broke down the ingrediants into a single serving and mixed it up last night. It was AWESOME. I used 2tablespoons of peanut butter, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1/2 a cup of oatmeal. That came out to 13g Protein, 18g Fat, and 50g of carbs. I ate about 75% of it with a can of tuna for a meal. I must say, I am looking forward to eating this stuff frequently. It was very hard to not eat the whole mix, but I am currently trying to lose about 10 pounds. Thanks for the post!

I've heard the quality of protein poweder decreases upon heating. What's up with that? You recipe sounds grrr8, but it ain't worth much if what I've heard holds true. Anyone?

Someone - true! due to denaturing - but its not really important - these are used to supp the diet anyway - so aslong as the rest of your diet is good protein - OK.

Yep James is right about the denaturing with heat but you don't heat it enough to damage it. The heat just makes the mixture of pb and honey more workable but not that hot, by the time you add the whey protein it is only warm. Hope this helps.

protien powders are in many of the foods we buy in the shops every day and the manufacturers must spend millions reserching their products each year so if its good enough for them in their heated products its good for me.....and the bigfella.. best wishes bud..Trident

RE: Protein Bars...recipe - 23 September 2001 22:04
Ah yes, I see. I somehow thought one had to put the mix into the oven after one had smoothed it onto the tray. Reading closer I now get the point.

Now, what if one dosn't have a microwave? I guess I could throw the mix onto a pan or something. Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried this or something similar?
