Ah rite no i mean i aim for reps between 8 - 10 if i get 10 i up the weight

I see, i personally think thats a pretty good plan for hypertrophy and i would expect decent results from it. Although i would like to throw in a 6 repper for the last set just to so my muscles get to feel a bit for weight.

Yeah i know what you mean bit like pyramid but not if you know what i mean lol

Acturley that is a good idea and i might do this now, after every exercise on the last set up the weight and really kill the muscle for 4 - 6 reps, what you think.

It's personal preference and depends what your body reacts best to.

But, yes i think it's a good idea, although i would be aiming for 6 reps as much as you can rather than 4, even if it's only a small weight increase.

I don't like too many sets with the same weight and like to make small weight increases as much as i can.

Over the weeks as my reps increase i up the weight then lower the reps, once my reps are back up again i then add more weight. It's a cycle that has been working for me at least.

Bit p1ssed off at the moment as i manage to fcuk my thumb up even more last night!!!

I may try and improvise my training and work around it a bit!?!?

Although i've trained through injuries in the past and sometimes just made it worse and prolonged the full recovery.

fcuk that mate. i hate when an injury is gettting better then you knock it or catch it and its back to the start. i know what you mean about trying to train with an injury i have done before but IMO/IME i find it better to just sit it out then you can be sure that you can give it 100% when you get back to it as opposed it going easy incase you hurt it again.
Good Luck.

Cheers Tommy!

Think i'm going to give it a try later this evening anyway, although i've got a feeling as soon as i take the weight of the bar it's going to be too much. Got to give it a go though!

Well, im fairly pleased as i managed a bit of a chest workout.

I had to use a thumbless grip and even then it was a bit uncomfortable where the bar was on the ball joint of my thumb. The crease of my right arm between forearm and bicep was giving me a bit of pain also, i think that was brought on from when i originally hurt my thumb New Year.

Considering i hav'nt worked chest for 5 weeks now (last time was Dec 11th) and i've got an injured thumb i was quite pleased that i had'nt lost too much strength.

Flat Bench Press

20 press ups (warm up)
20 reps with 60kg (warm up)
6 reps with 105kg
3 reps with 105kg
1 rep with 110kg

I also made an attempt at dumbell bench press but that was a complete nogo! I could'nt even get them into position due to not being able to grip the bar properly.

Originally planned to go running today but felt it would give too much back ache at the moment as plan on doing deadlifts this evening.

Did 30 minutes at a good pace on my stationary cycle, felt good after!

Heyup mate.

Glad to see the thumb didn't disrupt your training too much.

Well my left grip will be fine. For my right i think i will need to use a thumbless grip again, not sure how much that will allow me to pull, im aiming for reps with 180kg, but will just have to see.

The main problem with my hand is when the weight of the bar is bearing down into the crook of my hand inbetween my thumb and finger. So it's mainly pushing lifts that affect it. Although it does also stop me wrapping my thumb around the bar to get a tight grip on any lifts.

Nah, just a bit of chalk if my palms get sweaty.

This evening i worked my back.

Deadlifts

12 reps with 60kg (warm up)
8 reps with 100kg (warm up)
5 reps with 180kg
4 reps with 180kg
2 reps with 190kg

Wide Grip Chins

10 reps
6 reps
5 reps

I did'nt use the thumbless grip, i got my hand into postition with it but did'nt feel comfortable and did'nt want to c0ck up a set, so i stuck to a normal grip. It hurt my thumb a bit and it did affect my lifting, but it was'nt too bad.

I could probably have managed another rep on each of the last 2 sets but my grip was starting to slip and i had'nt used chalk for any of the sets.

All in all though, taking into account i've not worked my back for 5 weeks and having an injured thumb, i was pleased with tonights workout.

Cheers!

Considering all the factors affecting me i was quite pleased with them.

Will be happy when all my working sets are 200kg plus!

If my thumb gets better ( ) and my training continues as it was before Christmas then i recon i could achieve that within a few weeks.

It was just cardio for me today, 30 minutes on my exercise bike this afternoon.

Im not going to do any direct work for my biceps or triceps this week, there is little point and it could well aggravate my thumb more. I've done ok with it as it is this week and don't want to hinder the healing process too much.

Planning on squats tomorrow, then at least i will have hit the main three lifts this week, with a bit of cardio thrown in!

Hi mate, really good journal u got going and some brilliant progress.U see with that picture from several yrs back where u was lean and the picture after where u had gained a bit of weight did u have a pause in training in that time.If so how long was u off.

But since that photo u have gained back your leaness through hard and dedicated work and have to respect u for the amount of cardio u were doing at times very impressive.

Keep up the good work mate and keep up the good journal.
