Back To My Old Dungeon Gym ! - 29 December 2006 15:02
Well I wasn’t going do this until it was officially 2007 and I’d actually made a start but I’ve got some spare time right now so I thought I’d get the introduction bit out of the way !

This must be like my 4th MT journal but I prefer starting afresh rather than resurrecting old ones, hopefully this one will herald a new beginning for me , although I’m pretty sure I said something similar at the start of all the others !

Right , my goals for the next 6 months are -

Get injury free or as near as possible
Train all muscles one way or another - kind of tied into first goal
Get down to around 10 % bf - to see what I have left
Drastically reduce alcohol consumption !!!

I have a load of other goals in the mid-long term but I need to concentrate on the short term for now.

Training will be dictated by current state of injuries so I’ll get something up as I go along

Diet , well my diet is a bit of a car wreck at the moment having been on holiday and then Christmas .I’m planning to ease into my diet concentrating on sticking to planned meals , even if those meals wouldn’t fit into most people’s idea of a cutting meal, I need to completely change my current eating patterns to achieve my long term goals but for now I’m going to stick with what I know.

Drinking , well what can I say that I’ve not said on here a thousand times before , I’d really rather not ramble on about it and just get on with not doing it ! My aim is to go for as long as possible in 2007 without a single drink, now that might be one week , one day or 6 months , I really don’t want to set a definite time scale I just plan to take one day at a time ! I know that’s a cliché but I really do think that’s the way forward.

I have a few other personal goals for 2007 and seeing as I usually like to use my journals to talk about anything but training I might as well put these up too !

Reduce my current level of debt
Come to terms with how my personality effects my relationships and performance at work
Improve my job skills
Use my spare time productively

Any questions or input are welcome, I will add current stats when I get chance to weigh and measure myself. I intend to do before & after pics and I hope to be able to update my avi before too long .I must say I feel a bit self conscious starting yet another journal full of big plans but …….

RE: PAGAN MMVII - 30 December 2006 17:43
Thats what I like about my journals , all the best people turn up in them

Boar - Nothing necessarily wrong with my personality, I just dont seem to be able to feel comfortable with myself and it's at work where this effects me most, I'll probably expand a bit more as I go , I really do intend to use this journal to record my progress in every aspect of my life.

BencherRdg - Yeah I promise to change it inside 6 months

Plug - I'm hoping this journal will be devoid of drunken rambling and stories of execess so you might get bored with it after a while

T1B - I'm suffering from elbow tendonitis in both arms , I have tennis elbow in my left and golfers in my right I havn't done a decent back or bi's workout in a couple of months.I also have a problem with my knees that I've had for about ten years, basically whenever I put any pressure on them in a bent position it feels as if my knee cap is gonna pop off, I've seen a couple of physio's and osteopaths about it but got nowhere. I'm going to see a physio as soon as I can get an appointment in the new year and I'm gonna resume training quads even if it's ultra light leg extensions and or partial movements with light weights.I'm also gonna include regular fish oils and a glucosomine supplements in the new year. I'm bloody praying I can get these problems sorted or I'm pretty much f*cked in terms of developing a decent all round physique

S-T-E-F - Cheers mate, you were one of the first people to post in my first ever MT journal and you have been giving me sound advice ever since, I dont seem to have acted on any of it before but maybe this time I'll bloody listen

[ Joe ] - Anyone who needs pointers from me is truly f*cked

Right well I'm off to my mates house-warming party to get wrecked , dont worry I'm not drinking on a empty stomach , I've just had a quarter pounder with cheese meal + a Big Mac side order, the diet starts on January the 2nd

Drastically reduce alcohol consumption !!!

Seems to me it all revolves around this one. Sort this and the rest will fall into place. Back in 1988 i was in a hospital bed with a doctor stood at the bottom giving me the old "do you want to live until you're 40" routine. I was 32 at the time and was kinda hoping to. "Stop phucking drinking then" said the doctor in the manner of a man who wasn't joking. Anyhoo, here we are on the brink of 2007 and Fat Pete is the 50 year old, 300 kilo squatter you know and love. I did it, and it's the best thing i ever did.

GOOD LUCK !

No time for a proper update but just like to thank everyone who's wished me well especially Fat Pete for sharing that sobering (oh yes that pun was intended) story of his own experience

Diet is not yet in place , I'm having a nightmare with finances and work but I'm hoping to get this under control ASAP.Hoping to do a quick full body session tomorrow just to break me in for starting proper next week. The good news is that I have not had a drink all year !!!

RE: PAGAN MMVII - 04 January 2007 18:40
^^^ Plug It would be rude not to

Wohooo first training session of 2007 , didn't do much just wanted to break myself in for starting proper next week and see how the elbows would hold up.Just did a few sets of incline benches and some bent rows , also tried close grip decline benches on the smith machine only to find that none of the benches have leg supports meaning that you just slide of the bench when you lay back , what the f*ck is the point of having benches that decline but have no leg supports so we settled for flat close grip benches with a EZ bar. I wanted to try a new exercise for tri's and didn't really want it to be cable based.
Elbows were fine on the pressing but didn't seem to like the bent rows. I'm still trying to make a physio appointment but I keep getting an answer machine at the one I want to try.

Looking at the following split

Mon
Chest /tri's

Wed
Back

Fri
Shoulders
Legs
Bi's

It might look a little odd but I have my reasons.Cardio will be added once I have given the clean diet a couple of weeks to have effect, I'm a big fan of keeping things back until you need them rather than throwing everything at your body to start with. I'm know that hitting a strict diet and cardio would rip it off faster but I'm sure this way will make longer term losses easier. Hark at me I've gone 4 nights without a drink and I'm talking about the 'long term'

^^ Fridays day seems a bit on the excessive mate, do you have a half day on a friday or something? I know Ive tried to do legs and shoulders together and never ever managed it, they are just too big a body part. Not to mention Fridays a Pub day.. early starter lol.

Good luck mate. Will be interesting and if I can offer any support with the reducing alcohol consumption then I am happy to try mate. I have been through it and can sympathise with how hard it is.

Glad the first 4 days have gone well mate.....set yourself little targets as you go along and you should be fine. You will definately see the benefits quicker than you think

RE: PAGAN MMVII - 04 January 2007 19:28
Cheers Cardiff , how much are you drinking these days ?

Plug - Happy New Year to you too The reason I want to do legs on shoulder day is that my leg workouts may be fairly limited by my knees , I dont see heavy atg squats featuring any time soon so training them shouldn't be too taxing and if I gave them a day of their own I might find excuses not to make the gym that day. I also want to split shoulders from chest for a while as I want to concentrate on improving my overhead press. My training partner wanted to split back and bi's , I wasn't to bothered as I cant really train bi's at the mo because of my elbows, so all in all the split I'm gonna try seemed to make sense

Mixing up military presses and push presses worked wonders for my overhead strength. Might be worth a try.
