cheers for the comments kerr mate...

I'm having a bit of a dilemma at the moment with my routine. I need to get squats in there somehow but the prob is this:

I'm bulking, I play footy twice a week, and I'm running the london marathon...as scooby doo. Check the bastard suit out, bloody hot!

So that means progressive runs every week (13 miles +)...Not sure if squatting might push my legs over the edge!

Anyone got any thoughts?

i can safely say i wasnt expecting you to say that

im not sure about your legs fella, i think about squats and my legs start to hurt, im sure i was born with 90 year olds legs you may be best leaving the squats out until after the marathon (i feel the pain in my calves more when running) when is the marathon?

i also have no lats when theyre relaxed, it pi55es me right off

dave

the problem is that my skullcrushers aren't strict. I think the proper form is to lower the bar to just above the forehead. I prefer stretching them beyond my head down behind the bench and back up from there. This is probably why my Skullcrusher weight seems quite impressive when in reality they aint!!! Cheers for poppin in mate!

Did'nt quite crack the 150k deads then... no big deal, you're still 5k up from last week, thats progress still.

Deadlifts plus low energy just don't go together.

Believe it or not, upto the last week or so i was'nt really eating that much, not compared to what some guys on here eat!

Deadlifts are a good lift for me, but if you look at my squat... that is p!ss poor!... The mistake of not weight training my legs for years!

yeah ive heard rumours that one of the side effects of miracle grow consumption is whitening of the face, so i think noname may have dabbled in the past

the 150kg will come mate, its 15kg better then my best for reps mate so it is a good lift - it will come just make sure you dont get stuck in chasing weights, getting PB's are good dont get me wrong

Same as me with the squat mate. I'm running a damn marathon in April and so am leaving squats out of my routine for now....don't really want bulky legs for 26.2 miles. I'm sure you're legs will catch up soon though mate!

What seems to be working for me at the moment is going to the gym with one soul objective. Lift heavier than the week before, if that's not possible lift more reps at the same weight, if that's not possible do the same workload with less rest....etc. Basically I really really am chasing progression....in 9 weeks I've gone from 90k for 6 on my bench press to 100k x 6 (did that tonight)...10k for me in that time frame is unreal...I'm lovin it.

I'm gonna have a quick ganers in your journal in the minute actually mate....see you there!

Didn't have much time today, only about 30 minutes...so couldn't complete the workout. But the numbers were good!

Bench press - 6x100, 6x100, 5x100, 97.5x4
DB Shoulder press - 27.5x8, 27.5x8, 27.5x5

I was leaving hardly any rest between the dumbell shoulder press exercise which is why I lost two reps in comparison to last week. With the same rest as last week all 3 sets would have been nailed for good 8 honest reps.

Using the one rep max calculator apparently 6x100 is about 116k 1RM.
I reckon I could have got 7 for the first set, that would be a 120k 1RM - loving it.

The next milestone is 130K 1RM, and I'll give myself another 9-10 weeks to hit it.
Then we may be one 140K before the end of the year. Let's see how it goes!

Yeah, it's a case of training to suit your goals/aims. I was boxing and doing a lot of matial arts in my early years which was part of the reason (excuse ) i did'nt train legs with weights, because i was doing a lot of running and endurance training.

It's quite bad that my 1 rep max for squats is only 5kg more than my current max bench!... Oh well, it'll come in time.

You've got the right frame of mind with your training... aim to progress however you can. Either more weight or more reps, thats pretty much the way i'm training at the moment.
