Generally my experience has actually been positive. I work in a university and I tend to get a lot less grief from students and lecturers, especially the ones known to have a snotty attitude with other members of staff. Only slightly negative thing is that sometimes people assume I work in the security or maintenance departments.

I think it can work in so many different way. i myself have a natural big frame and have stuck out in a crowd all my life, but have never realy been affected by this. but then i shaved my head, and that made a hell of a difference as i would have people stare at me as i walked into shops etc. So i think it all depends on what threatens who.

Do you think that people have a stereotype for a muscular person? Do you think that this is a negative stereotype, and if so, do you think it has affected your job or life in any significant way?

I work in the IT industry, client-facing, and I kind of feel that if I had any kind of serious size it would affect my job prospects through two paths. The company might not want me client facing for image reasons (not so sure about this but I wonder), but also through maybe a kind of size jealousy.

I haven't experienced these things, apart from meeting a general lack of understanding as to e.g. why I have to go to the gym instead of hang out with my boss. I wonder how much of an issue size-ism is/can be?

Me too - and thanks to James have gone up two shirt sizes whilst bulking this year... nowing weighing in at around 15 stone...

Upto now no problems with my job / colleagues etc.. and TBH I would try not to see it as a issue... I've just been offered an promotion - so it doesn't seem to cause myself any problems.

Just my take on it

How tall are you Mick?

There is no shame whatsoever in doing what you need to do, to get you where you need to be. Thats resolve.

I can imagine it would intimidate some people, but it goes down to a lot more than pure size. If you are wearing a suit, I imagine you get less of a reaction as to when it is clear that you size is muscle mass. Ignoring my lack of size I find people react to me a hell of a lot differently depending on how I'm dressed and whether i've but my hair or not!

People do sterotype you, at the last place i worked. Within a week, the majority of the female staff had come to the conclusion, that i was a world class womaniser, i disliked larger ladies, i was arrogant and self absorbed and somehow thought i was better than them. All of this was flung around before they had even spoken to me.

Within a month they got to know me and discovered none of the above was true. Ive been engaged for 5 years, i quite like some larger ladies, i never thought i was better than them and im just confident. Most of them are now good friends with me, thats how i know what they all thought of me to start with!

Its odd, what consequences bodybuilding can bring. Some of them you wouldnt ever see coming.

I also had an altercation with the coffin at the same funeral, although it didn't look like a coffin to me. An easy mistake to make in my opinion.

Lol. Around here they call it 'pausing for a plumper'. Not language i ever really use, but its a common phrase here! Personally ive seen some utter stunners that just happen to be on the slightly larger side, it doesnt bother me that much. Though at the risk of getting my balls cut off, i have to mention that i am happily engaged and have never so much as actually looked at another women in the past seven years. Honest.......
