Are these b/f estimates correct?
-
02 March 2007 17:06
Just want to make something clear, I am in no way slagging this guy off, he has done a great job and all credit to him. However I think his b/f percentages are quite a bit off, would you agree? Edit -> The image seems to have been blocked, its the comparison on http://www.johnstonefitness.com Direct link to image http://www.johnstonefitness.com/images/4_215s.jpg

I think they are fine. I also think that people who posts threads asking "What BF% do you think i am?" are the ones getting ripped. This guy probably does messure his BF%.

ORIGINAL: Papa Lazarou Whatever - the results are good, good change in body composition IMO - well done EDIT Notice its not you - good results all the same! People are too quick to put people down! I'm not putting the guy down, its just that there is a huge inconsistency over the web. I've seen guys with abs who look like 8% saying they are 16% and guys who have only marginally visible abs say they are 9%. It seems everyone measures correctly but the differences are extreme. Anyway, as I stated in my original post, John Stone has done an excellent job, a quick scan of his site also shows he is close to a 500lb DL which is damn good for a life long natty.

It varies tho. I'm currently about 18-20% (well the ****ty scales I have say that , prolly miles out and the AAS water weight will add some) but I have my top abs showing. Abs IMO aren't a a proof of a certain BF IMO.

That's because different people hold more bodyfat in different places. Some people may hold the majority of their body fat on their stomach, resulting in the findings you have just outlined. Some people may have very thick abdominal muscles and these may show through at higher bodyfat percentrages. They may also have an even fat distribution through out their body, meaning abs will be visible at 16%. It is also very much dependant on lighting and other photographic conditions. There are too many variables to take into consideration.. but I would like to say that the guy in the picture is actually not far off 10.5% bodyfat. Probably around 14%, an inaccuracy due to the measuring apparateus. THe thing to bear in mind is that he has probably used the same apparateus under the same conditions to measure his bodyfat, so even if the results are not spot on, the fat loss is still consistant. ORIGINAL: zenman I've seen guys with abs who look like 8% saying they are 16% and guys who have only marginally visible abs say they are 9%. It seems everyone measures correctly but the differences are extreme.

It could well be 10.5%. Depends on what technique he uses to measure BF

He might be 10.5 using that calculator as it gave me a result of 11.4% when I'm more in the 13% region.

All 3 of his methods can yield inaccurate results in my opinion

Looks about right to me, granted his abs aren't showing and some would at that level but others have a stubborn area there and don't show until lower. Also he may be breathing in on the pic to make his chest look bigger so they wouldn't show fully unless he was blowing out.
